Kinetik von Indozyaningrün (ICG) und adjuvanter Einsatz zur transpupillaren Thermotherapie (TTT) pigmentarmer kleiner Aderhautmelanome
2004
BACKGROUND To determine the efficacy of intravenous indocyanine green (ICG) as an adjuvant to TTT for hypopigmented choroidal melanomas. PATIENTS AND METHODS ICG kinetics in melanoma tissue were evaluated by taking standardized ICG angiograms in 28 eyes with small choroidal melanomas. In a prospective non-randomized analysis 12 eyes with hypopigmented choroidal melanomas (posterior to the equator with thickness </= 4.5 mm) were treated with the TTT standard protocol developed by an intravenous injection of 100 mg ICG in 10 ml aqueous solvent 2 minutes after starting TTT. These eyes were followed-up for at least 22 months (mean 29). RESULTS Pharmacokinetic analyses revealed the onset of fluo…
Intravitreal Dexamethasone Implant for Postoperative Macular Oedema Secondary to Vitrectomy for Epiretinal Membrane and Retinal Detachment: A Systema…
2021
Purpose. To evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal dexamethasone implant (DEX) for the treatment of macular oedema secondary to vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane (ERM) and retinal detachment (RD) by conducting a systematic review with meta-analysis of published studies. Methods. Studies reporting clinical outcomes of DEX use for the treatment of macular oedema secondary to ERM and RD vitrectomy were searched on PubMed and Embase databases. The primary outcome was best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) change between baseline and post-DEX treatment, reported as mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). Mean central macular thickness (CMT) change was assessed as a secondary outcome…

Use in clinical practice of an automated screening method of diabetic retinopathy that can be derived using a diagnostic artificial intelligence syst…
2020
Abstract Background and Objective To compare the diagnostic performance of an autonomous diagnostic artificial intelligence (AI) system for the diagnosis of derivable diabetic retinopathy (RDR) with manual classification. Materials and Methods Patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes participated in a diabetic retinopathy (RD) screening program between 2011–2012. 2 images of each eye were collected. Unidentifiable retinal images were obtained, one centered on the disc and one on the fovea. The exams were classified with th e autonomous AI system and manually by anonymous ophthalmologists. The results of the AI system and manual classification were compared in terms of sensitivity and specif…
The Effect of Dexamethasone on Water and Electrolyte Content and on rCBF in Perifocal Brain Edema in Man
1972
The results of clinical studies are reported dealing with the relationship between cerebral edema and regional cerebral blood flow in patients with brain tumor as well as with the effect of dexamethasone on this relationship. rCBF is found to be significantly reduced in brain tissue surrounding brain tumors. Autoregulation as well as cerebrovascular reactivity to PaCO2 is focally or generally impaired. Water content of perifocal white matter is markedly increased. The combination of tissue lactacidosis, low regional blood flow and vasoparalysis seems to be a characteristic finding in this type of local brain edema. The increased local tissue pressure, due to the increased tissue water conte…

Lipedema: an overview of its clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of the disproportional fatty deposition syndrome - systematic review
2012
Lipedema is a disproportionate, symmetrical fatty swelling characterized by pain and bruising existing almost exclusively among women. We undertook a systematic review of the available literature about lipedema, given the lack of knowledge and little evidence about this disorder especially among obesity experts. Diagnosis of lipedema is usually based on clinical features. Symmetrical edema in the lower limbs with fatty deposits located to hips and thighs usually appears at puberty and often affects several members of the same family. Main disorders considered for differential diagnosis are lymphedema, obesity, lipohypertrophy and phlebedema. Treatment protocols comprise conservative (decong…
