Speed control of the V2 skating technique in elite cross-country skiers

The aim was to examine how skiers control skiing speed using V2-skating. Subjects skied with three submaximal and maximal speeds on 100 m 4° uphill. Cycle variables and force parameters form the arms and legs were analysed. Cycle rate increased up to the maximum speed. Cycle length increased from the slowest speed to the all other speeds. Pole force and delta leg force increased up to the maximum speed. Ranges of motions and angular velocities of kick flexion and extension with knee and hip joints increased till highest submaximal speed. New degrees of freedom for differential forms on cubical meshes

We consider new degrees of freedom for higher order differential forms on cubical meshes. The approach is inspired by the idea of Rapetti and Bossavit to define higher order Whitney forms and their degrees of freedom using small simplices. We show that higher order differential forms on cubical meshes can be defined analogously using small cubes and prove that these small cubes yield unisolvent degrees of freedom. Significantly, this approach is compatible with discrete exterior calculus and expands the framework to cover higher order methods on cubical meshes, complementing the earlier strategy based on simplices.

Light induces expression of a dehydrin-encoding gene during seedling de-etiolation in sunflower (Helianthus annus L.)

The effects of light quality on the expression of a sunflower dehydrin-encoding gene, HaDhn1, were studied during seedling de-etiolation. Seeds were germinated in the dark and, after 5 days, seedlings were maintained well watered and de-etiolated under different lights for 3, 6, 12, and 24h. Exposure to white light stimulated HaDhn1 transcript accumulation in the cotyledons of these seedlings, contrary to seedlings grown in the dark. HaDhn1 transcripts increased also treating plantlets with monochromatic lights, especially red light. Heart rate variability biofeedback (HRVB) has been used for a number of years to treat depressive symptoms, a common mental health issue, which is often comorbid with other psychopathological and medical conditions. The aim of the present meta-analysis is to test whether and to what extent HRVB is effective in reducing depressive symptoms in adult patients. We conducted a literature search on Pubmed, ProQuest, Ovid PsycInfo, and Embase up to October 2020, and identified 721 studies. Fourteen studies were included in the meta-analysis.
