Missing a lot of this world : formal education and political competition in Iraq through a Yezidi lens

2017

This thesis examines Yezidi perceptions of access to formal education for Yezidi children and youth from the Sinjar region of Iraq, a primary homeland of the Yezidi people and an officially disputed territory between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government of Iraq in Baghdad, between the periods of 2003–2014 and 2014 onwards. These two time frames are selected and differentiated to reflect two major events in the recent history of Sinjar – the downfall of Saddam Hussein’s regime in 2003 and subsequent de facto control of Sinjar by the KRG, and the seizing of the area by the Islamic State (IS) group and subsequent displacement of the majority of the Yezidi communit…

WELL-BEING AND WORK-RELATED STRESS: MEASURES AND DYNAMICS TO IMPROVE INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL HEALTH

2014

Occupational stress is considered to be one of the ten leading work-related health problems. Several research showed that stress consequences have a negative impact on the worker in several way. Moreover, literature have shown that the work environment can have a major effect on employee work-related stress. For this reason, occupational health psychology is increasingly focused on identifying the relationships between job characteristics and psychological well-being. In light of these considerations, the central aim of this dissertation was to give a significant contribution to the understanding of work-related stress. Specifically, the main aims of the present dissertation were: (a) to pr…

Iodination of antipyrine with [N–I–N]+ and carbonyl hypoiodite iodine(i) complexes

2023

A series of iodine(I) complexes, both known and new, were synthesised and the dependence of iodination reactivity on the identity of the Lewis bases and anions present was investigated. Using a previously established screening protocol based on the iodination of antipyrine to iodo-antipyrine, the capability of the iodine(I) species to perform the iodination was tested and compared, especially in relation to Barluenga's reagent, [I(pyridine)2]BF4. The results indicated that the identity of both the Lewis bases and the anion influence the iodination capability of the iodine(I) species, and that the less efficient reagents can deliver favourably comparable percentage conversions with longer re…

Intentions of early retirement and continuing to work among middle-aged and older employees

2009

The purpose of this study is to investigate personal, health, work, and work-related psychological factors in association with employee intentions of early retirement and continuing to work after retirement in the form of bridge employment. In addition, the study aims to further our understanding of what motivates older employees by investigating age-related differences in employee reward preferences. The study draws upon several theoretical perspectives, including continuity theory, the life course perspective, theories on motivation, and the meaning of work for older employees. Survey data from three individual research projects are used in this study - age management studies consisting o…

Is work intensification bad for employees? A review of outcomes for employees over the last two decades

2022

Work intensification (WI) is a notable job stressor, which has been hypothesised to result in various negative outcomes for employees. However, earlier empirical studies regarding this stressor hypothesis have not yet been reviewed. Our narrative review focused on the outcomes for employees of WI as a perceived job stressor. Our review was based on selected qualitative and quantitative empirical studies (k = 44) published in peer-reviewed journals between the years 2000 and 2020. Altogether, the findings of these studies showed that WI was related to various negative outcomes for employees, such as impaired well-being and motivation, supporting the stressor hypothesis. Stressful WI manifest…

Akillesjänteen hystereesi lämpökameralla mitattuna

2013
