Extending the Limits of Nature. Political Animals, Artefacts, and Social Institutions

This essay discusses how medieval authors from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries dealt with a philosophical problem that social institutions pose for the Aristotelian dichotomy between natural and artificial entities. It is argued that marriage, political community, and language provided a particular challenge for the conception that things which are designed by human beings are artefacts. Medieval philosophers based their arguments for the naturalness of social institutions on the anthropological view that human beings are political animals by nature, but this strategy required rethinking the borderline between nature and art. Nurse practice – clinical learning environment and student satisfaction
 The purpose of this study was to investigate nursing students’ satisfaction with the clinical learning environment during clinical practice. A questionnaire was distributed to nursing students at a university (N=250) in Norway. Student satisfaction, task orientation, pedagogical atmosphere, supervisory relationship, and the premises of nursing on the ward were measured. Of the 250 students invited, 163 (66 %) completed the survey. Selvoppfatning er av betydning for faglig framgang og kreativitet. Hensikten med denne studien var å beskrive forandring av selvoppfatning hos en gruppe sykepleierstudenter i løpet av sin treårige bachelorutdanning. En studiegruppe med 127 sykepleierstudenter ved en norsk høgskole besvarte et spørreskjema i første og siste studieår. Abstract Background The primary health care services are becoming increasingly complex, which presents challenges for the municipal nursing services. In Norway, municipal in-patient acute care (MipAC) has been introduced in all municipalities, and the competence at the services has been questioned. Few studies have examined the nursing services in the units. This study aims to get an overview of the nursing competence in those units across geographical regions, and different groups of organisation and localisation.
