Innovation Readiness in Healthcare Information Infrastructures: Key Resources to Enable Collaborative Digital Innovation

2019

This paper describes key requirements for digital innovation readiness in the public healthcare sector. Collaborative innovation models, where internal and external innovators contribute their ideas and solutions put certain requirements to the organization and ICT infrastructure of health organizations. To explore these requirements, we conducted an empirical case study of a collaborative digital innovation project from its concept stage towards implementation. Our study identifies key technical and organizational resources needed to facilitate innovation, and it therefore has implications for what resources and capabilities need to become part of the healthcare information infrastructure …

Establishing the Convergent Validity of the Travel Habit Questions in the Health Behavior in School-Aged Children Questionnaire by Quantifying Active…

2021

BackgroundActive travel (cycling or walking to school) can be a substantial part of adolescents' daily physical activity. Research on transport activities primarily relies on self-reported indices of travel mode and travel time. However, many researchers do not report the psychometric properties of their instruments. The Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) questionnaire is a commonly used instrument, but the items in this questionnaire on travel habits have not yet been validated. The present study was conducted to investigate the convergent validity and agreement between the HBSC items and a travel diary on (1) transport mode to and from school and (2) travel time to school.Meth…

Postpartum Experiences of Early Skin-to-Skin Contact and the Traditional Separation Approach After a Very Preterm Birth: A Qualitative Study Among Mo…

2021

Traditional care immediately after very preterm birth separates the mother and child by the transfer of the infant to the neonatal intensive care unit. A nonseparation approach is currently being considered, allowing early skin-to-skin contact in the delivery room/postoperative care unit. This study aimed to explore mothers’ experiences of early skin-to-skin contact and traditional care. A qualitative study using individual semi-structured interviews with five mothers from each of the two groups was conducted. Content analysis revealed that both groups’ experiences were characterized by (i) mothers’ need to be affirmed of their infants’ vitality, (ii) bonding challenges, and (iii) benefits…

På bakrommet til sakkyndige bedømmelsesutvalg. En kamp om å fortolke kriteriene

2020

This chapter offers outsiders a view of what goes on when a committee of experts assesses a candidate’s application for promotion to docent. The authors discuss various interpretations of the criteria a candidate must fulfill to attain promotion and the fact that different committees employ different interpretations. Some analytical questions and predetermined assumptions are used as reflective tools to analyze the experiences in six cases. In closing, the chapter offers some recommendations to the parties involved in various levels of the docent path: academic institutions and their administrations, members of assessment committees and the docent candidates themselves.

Planlegging, gjennomføring og evaluering av en seminarrekke for dosentkandidater

2020

This chapter presents a template developed for a facilitating seminar program for candidates seeking to become docents. The processes of planning, implementing, and evaluating the offered program are described. Dilemmas associated with academic advisement and other participatory dilemmas, as well as management’s choices and institutional embeddedness, are also discussed. The implemented seminar program is a pioneer project. Thus, it is encouraging that both the participants and management assessed the project so positively.

2022

Paper I, paper II and paper III are excluded from the dissertation due to copyright. Accepted versions of paper II and paper III follow as separate files. Background: Research on the impact of health status on sexual activity and sexual quality of life (QOL) in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is scarce. Aim: The overall aim of the studies was to examine the impact of health status on sexual activity and sexual QOL in male and female patients with axSpA. Methods: Three hundred and seventy-nine consecutive patients with axSpA, aged 18–81 years, who visited the outpatient rheumatology clinics at two Norwegian hospitals were included. Before Recovery - A Blind Spot in Recovery Research?: Users’ Narratives About the Origins and Development of their Mental Health and/or Addiction Pro…

2021

Objective: Recently, the position of persons with mental health and drug problems has evolved from victim of an illness to holder of an experience-based knowledge (EBK). Studies about recovery are often based on recovery narratives. However, focusing on components of the recovery process—parts of this EBK concerned with the causes, onset, and journey before the proper recovery process—risks forming a blind spot. In this study, we aim to analyze service users’ EBK about recovery, the backgrounds and causes of the problems, and how they related these conditions to their recovery journey. Research Design and Methods: We interviewed 29 persons in recovery. Data were analyzed by using thematic a…
