Inclusive university teachers: What characterizes them and how do they think about disability
2021
Human resource development and spiritual intelligence: an investigation amongst management students in Delhi NCR
2021
The study seeks to investigate the relationship between spiritual intelligence and its relative impact on students' academic performance. Several studies link SI with intellectual development. This study aims to analyse the phenomenon of spiritual intelligence (SI) within the framework of human resource development (HRD) research. Qualitative and quantitative data were analysed. The study was conducted among management students residing in Delhi NCR. The findings confirm that spiritual quotient factors are applicable in the Indian context. In addition, the study reveals that the spiritual quotient is significantly correlated with academic performance. The study uses the scale developed by K…
Feedback on individual academic presentations: exploring Finnish university students’ experiences and preferences
2015
With an increasing emphasis on measuring the outcomes of learning in higher education, assessment is gaining an ever more prominent role in curriculum design and development as well as in instructional practices. In formative assessment, feedback is regarded as a powerful pedagogical tool driving student engagement and deep learning. The efficacy of feedback, however, depends on a multitude of factors. From a learning cultures perspective (James 2014), assessment strives for an appropriate balance between structural constraints and individual agency. To have a better grasp of how feedback functions in practice, it is useful to investigate students’ views and preferences as well as the immed…
Dysfunctional beliefs about health and illness: a family study
2019
Ocean acidification and elevated temperature negatively affect recruitment, oxygen consumption and calcification of the reef-building Dendropoma cris…
2019
Expected temperature rise and seawater pH decrease may affect marine organism fitness. By a transplant experiment involving air-temperature manipulation along a natural CO2 gradient, we investigated the effects of high pCO(2) (similar to 1100 mu atm) and elevated temperature (up to +2 degrees C than ambient conditions) on the reproductive success, recruitment, growth, shell chemical composition and oxygen consumption of the early life stages of the intertidal reef-building vermetid Dendropoma cristatum. Reproductive success was predominantly affected by temperature increase, with encapsulated embryos exhibiting higher survival in control than elevated temperature conditions, which were in t…
Structural approach of social representation: Application to the concept of wine minerality in experts and consumers
2015
© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. In recent years the sensory evaluation field has been moving from the traditional sensory descriptive methodologies towards consumer based methodologies. Sensory descriptions are not confined to sensory evaluation. In everyday life, people use also descriptions to communicate about products sensory properties. The theory of social representation offers a new approach for studying the meaning of the terminology used in these everyday life descriptions. One implication of this theory is that meaning is created through a system of social negotiations rather than being a fixed and finite code. The goal of the present study was to understand the meaning of the concept of win…
Remarks on the relations between the Italian and American schools of algebraic geometry in the first decades of the 20th century
2004
Abstract In this paper we give an overview of the interactions between Italian and American algebraic geometers during the first decades of the 20th century. We focus on three mathematicians—Julian L. Coolidge, Solomon Lefschetz, and Oscar Zariski—whose relations with the Italian school were quite intense. More generally, we discuss the importance of this influence in the development of algebraic geometry in the first half of the 20th century.

Uz atvērtiem datiem balstīta reģionam līdzīgā reljefa ģenerēšana
2022
Riflessioni sull’iconografia funeraria lilibetana nell’età di Cicerone
2021
Twenty-four, and possibly twenty-five painted stelae and aediculae were found, in different times, in the area of the necropolis of Lilybaeum (1903, 1974-1984), and further North, nearer to the ancient sea-shore (1895); most recently, two new entries enhanced the Museo Lilibeo (2009), beside two elements from decorated epitymbia. Despite previous scholarly opinions spread these artifacts over three centuries, as a whole, they can be assigned approximately to Cicero’s time. Some cross-cutting features, as a matter of fact, connect the stelae and the “Salinas” aediculae, and indicate that both date between the late 2nd and the late 1st century BC. Nevertheless, they constitue two neatly diffe…
