Left bundle branch block and myocardial infarction, a diagnosis not always easy: Our experience and review of literature

2012

The occurrence of left bundle branch block (LBBB) is quite common in clinical practice. The changes in cardiac repolarization, caused by this disorder of electric conduction, may mask the presence of an acute myocardial infarction (AMI), delaying the diagnostic-therapeutic iter, with an important impact on prognosis. We describe the case of a woman of 59 years with LBBB, came to our observation for a constrictive chest pain associated with dyspnea. The diagnostic workup for suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS), initially conducted only on the analysis of the electrocardiogram (negative TnI at entry), showed the presence of coronary arteries free of stenosis. However, the diagnostic confi…

Transcranial direct current stimulation over left and right DLPFC: Lateralized effects on planning performance and related eye movements.

2014

Left and right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) were recently found to be differentially affected by unilateral continuous theta-burst stimulation, reflected in an oppositional alteration of initial thinking time (ITT) in the Tower of London planning task. Here, we further explored this finding using bilateral transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and simultaneous tracking of eye movements. Results revealed a decrease in ITT during concurrent cathodal tDCS of left dlPFC and anodal tDCS of right dlPFC. Eye-movement analyses showed that this facilitating tDCS effect was associated with the actual planning phase, thus reflecting a planning-specific impact of stimulation. For the…

RELATIVISTIC COMPRESSION AND EXPANSION OF EXPERIENTIAL TIME IN THE LEFT AND RIGHT SPACE

2007

Time, space and numbers are closely linked in the physical world. However, the relativistic-like effects on time perception of spatial and magnitude factors remain poorly investigated. Here we wanted to investigate whether duration judgments of digit visual stimuli are biased depending on the side of space where the stimuli are presented and on the magnitude of the stimulus itself. Different groups of healthy subjects performed duration judgment tasks on various types of visual stimuli. In the first two experiments visual stimuli were constituted by digit pairs (1 and 9), presented in the centre of the screen or in the right and left space. In a third experiment visual stimuli were constitu…

Vertical representation of C∞-words

2015

We present a new framework for dealing with C ∞ -words, based on their left and right frontiers. This allows us to give a compact representation of them, and to describe the set of C ∞ -words through an infinite directed acyclic graph G. This graph is defined by a map acting on the frontiers of C ∞ -words. We show that this map can be defined recursively and with no explicit reference to C ∞ -words. We then show that some important conjectures on C ∞ -words follow from analogous statements on the structure of the graph G.

Field location and player roles as constraints on emergent 1-vs-1 interpersonal patterns of play in football

2017

This study examined effects of player roles on interpersonal patterns of coordination that sustain decision-making in 1-vs-1 sub-phases of football in different field locations near the goal (left-, middle- and right zone). Participants were fifteen U-16 yrs players from a local competitive amateur team. To measure interpersonal patterns of coordination in the 1-vs-1 dyads we recorded: (i) the relative distance value between each attacker and defender to the centre of the goal, and (ii), the relative angle between the centre of the goal, each defender and attacker. Results revealed how variations in field locations near the goal (left-, middle- and right-zones) constrained the relative dist…

Beyond ‘Left’ and ‘Right’? The Role of Culture and Context in Young People’s Understanding of Ideology

2017

In this chapter, new comparative data from the MYPLACE survey is drawn on to explore how different ideological attitudes are linked to self-placement on the conventional 0–10 left–right political scale and, thus, shed light on what the concept of ‘left’ and ‘right’ means to young people today. It is found that the ideological beliefs most salient for young people when they place themselves on the left–right scale vary depending on the historical, political and cultural context. Although the majority are able to describe themselves in terms of ‘left’ and ‘right’, the meaning they attach to these notions differs from country to country. Accordingly, any cross-national analysis of ‘left’ and ‘…

Start Spreading the News: A Comparative Experiment on the Effects of Populist Communication on Political Engagement in Sixteen European Countries

2018

Although populist communication has become pervasive throughout Europe, many important questions on its political consequences remain unanswered. First, previous research has neglected the differential effects of populist communication on the Left and Right. Second, internationally comparative studies are missing. Finally, previous research mostly studied attitudinal outcomes, neglecting behavioral effects. To address these key issues, this paper draws on a unique, extensive, and comparative experiment in sixteen European countries (N = 15,412) to test the effects of populist communication on political engagement. The findings show that anti-elitist populism has the strongest mobilizing eff…

LAS PERIFERIAS SINTÁCTICAS EN EL HABLA COLOQUIAL DE ESPAÑOL L1 Y L2 Y DE SUECO L1: UN ESTUDIO TIPOLÓGICO Y ADQUISICIONAL

2019

P26-S Left and right motor cortical excitability and relationship to motor functions in healthy adolescents

2019

Background The interhemispheric difference in cortical excitability and its relationship to motor functions is unclear. Aim We examined the relationship between handedness, left and right motor cortex excitability and fine and gross motor functions in adolescence. Methods 28 healthy adolescents (age 16–19 years, 19 girls) were studied. Handedness was determined by the Waterloo Handedness Questionnaire. Motor threshold (MT) of the abductor pollicis brevis was measured on both hemispheres using biphasic stimulation, and on the left hemisphere also with monophasic stimulation. Box and block test (BBT) was used for manual dexterity, line run and standing long jump for gross motor tasks. Spearma…

P111 ROBOTIC-ASSISTED REPAIR OF IATROGENIC LEFT BRONCHUS PERFORATION DURING RAMIE – A CASE REPORT

2019

Abstract Background Iatrogenic bronchial injury during an esophageal surgery is a severe complication. Hence, immediate treatment is necessary to avoid further pulmonary complications and death. We present a case of an intraoperative bronchial injury caused by a bronchial tube cuff during a full robotic-assisted Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy (RAMIE). Case report A 64-year old patient with adenocarcinoma of the distal esophagus was planned for a RAMIE after completing neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy. Before beginning the thoracic phase, the anesthesist reported an airway leakage during the ventilation. During the transthoracic robotic assisted esophagectomy a perforation of the left main bronchus c…
