"Jeg har så lyst til å klare det" : kurative brystkreftpasienters erfaringer med å delta i livsstilsintervensjoner parallelt med kjemoterapi
2014
Masteroppgave i helsefag ME 518 Universitetet i Agder 2014 Background: Annually, more than 3000 women are affected by breast cancer in Norway.Lifestyle interventions indicate to be adequate in comparison to stress reduction and mentalwellbeing. Changes in to a more healthy diet, smoking cessation and physical activity seem togive less symptoms and side effects of the chemotherapy. In some studies it is indicated thatincreased survival could be a consequence of lifestyle changes in breast cancer patients.Purpose and research issues: The purpose of this study is to explore how curative breastcancer patients experience participation in lifestyle intervention in parallel withchemotherapy. Resea…
Comparison of different segmentation approaches without using gold standard. Application to the estimation of the left ventricle ejection fraction fr…
2011
International audience; A statistical method is proposed to compare several estimates of a relevant clinical parameter when no gold standard is available. The method is illustrated by considering the left ventricle ejection fraction derived from cardiac magnetic resonance images and computed using seven approaches with different degrees of automation. The proposed method did not use any a priori regarding with the reliability of each method and its degree of automation. The results showed that the most accurate estimates of the ejection fraction were obtained using manual segmentations, followed by the semiautomatic methods, while the methods with the least user input yielded the least accu…
The role of macrophage colony-stimulating factor in patients with acute myocardial infarction: a pilot study.
2011
We assessed whether macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) levels are associated with left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We studied 56 patients with AMI (mean age: 67 ± 12 years) and identified those with clinical (Killip class >II) or echocardiographic signs (ejection fraction ≤45%) of LVSD. We evaluated the established cardiovascular risk factors and measured several cardiovascular biomarkers, including M-CSF. Serum M-CSF concentrations (pg/mL) were significantly increased in patients with both clinical and echocardiographic signs of LVSD (460 ± 265 vs 290 ± 210, P = .0103 and 493 ± 299 vs 287 ± 174, P = .0028, respec…
Incidence, risk factors, and thrombotic load of pulmonary embolism in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection
2021
Summary Objective To determine the incidence, characteristics, and risk factors of pulmonary embolism (PE) among patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Patients and Methods We performed a prospective observational study of a randomly selected cohort of consecutive patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection between March 8, 2020 through April 25, 2020. All eligible patients underwent a computed tomography pulmonary angiography independently of their PE clinical suspicion and were pre-screened for a baseline elevated D-dimer level. Results 119 patients were randomly selected from the 372 admitted to one tertiary hospital in Valencia (Spain) for COVID-19 infection during the period of study. Se…
Etestw versus broth microdilution for ceftaroline MIC determination with Staphylococcus aureus: Results from PREMIUM, a European multicentre study
2017
Objectives: To compare the concordance of ceftaroline MIC values by reference broth microdilution (BMD) and Etest (bioMérieux, France) for MSSA and MRSA isolates obtained from PREMIUM (D372SL00001), a European multicentre study. Methods: Ceftaroline MICs were determined by reference BMD and by Etest for 1242 MSSA and MRSA isolates collected between February and May 2012 from adult patients with community-acquired pneumonia or complicated skin and soft tissue infections; tests were performed across six European laboratories. Selected isolates with ceftaroline resistance in broth (MIC >1 mg/L) were retested in three central laboratories to confirm their behaviour. Results: Overall concordance…
Early-infantile onset epilepsy and developmental delay caused by bi-allelic GAD1 variants
2020
Mice lacking GAD1 show neonatal mortality, but the human phenotype associated with GAD1 disruption is poorly characterized. Neuray et al. describe six patients with biallelic GAD1 mutations, presenting with early-infantile onset epilepsy, neurodevelopmental delay, muscle weakness and non-CNS manifestations.
Novel Analgesic Agents Obtained by Molecular Hybridization of Orthosteric and Allosteric Ligands
2019
AbstractDespite the high incidence of acute and chronic pain in the general population, the efficacy of currently available medications is unsatisfactory. Insufficient management of pain has a profound impact on the quality of life and can have serious physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences. This unmet need reflects a failure to develop novel classes of analgesic drugs with superior clinical properties and lower risk of abuse. Nevertheless, recent advances in our understanding of the neurobiology of pain are offering new opportunities for developing different therapeutic approaches. Among those, the activation of M2 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, which play a key ro…
New insights from GWAS for the cleft palate among han Chinese population
2016
Background Genome wide association studies (GWAS) already have identified tens of susceptible loci for nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P). However, whether these loci associated with nonsyndromic cleft palate only (NSCPO) remains unknown. Material and Methods In this study, we replicated 38 SNPs (Single nucleotide polymorphisms) which has the most significant p values in published GWASs, genotyping by using SNPscan among 144 NSCPO trios from Western Han Chinese. We performed the transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) on individual SNPs and gene-gene (GxG) interaction analyses on the family data; Parent-of-Origin effects were assessed by separately considering trans…
Immunity, Inflammation and Heart Failure. Their Role on Cardiac Function and Iron Status
2019
Aims: Heart failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by subclinical systemic inflammation and immune system activation associated with iron deficiency. No data exist on the various activations of immune-mediated mechanisms of inflammation in heart failure patients with reduced/preserved ejection fraction. We aimed to (1) investigate possible differences in inflammatory parameters and oxidative stress, and (2) detect a different iron status between groups. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 50 consecutive Caucasian outpatients with heart failure. All patients underwent echocardiographic measurements, laboratory determinations, evaluation of iron status and Toll-like receptors, and NF-κB …
