Priming with a Combination of Proangiogenic Growth Factors Enhances Wound Healing in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes in Mice

2010

Background: Numerous proangiogenic growth factors have been shown to improve impaired wound healing. This study evaluated the effects of subcutaneous pretreatment with a combination of proangiogenic growth factors on wound closure, mechanical properties, vessel density, and morphology. Methods: Thirty-six Balb/c mice with streptozotocin-induced diabetes were divided into 3 groups. A mixture of VEGF (35.0 µg), bFGF (2.5 µg), and PDGF (3.5 µg) was administered subcutaneously 3, 5, and 7 days prior to wounding in the first group, whereas the second group received three doses of 3.5 µg PDGF. Wound sizes were assessed daily and the repaired tissues were harv…

Intravitreal dexamethasone implant versus anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy combined with cataract surgery in patients with diabetic ma…

2021

Objective: to compare outcomes of cataract surgery combined with either anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (anti-VEGF) therapy or dexamethasone implant (DEX) in patients with diabetic macular oedema (DMO). Methods: Pubmed and Embase databases were searched for studies reporting outcomes of diabetic cataract surgery combined with either anti-VEGF or DEX, with a follow-up ≥3 months. The primary outcome was the mean change in central macular thickness (CMT). Mean change in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was considered as a secondary outcome. The mean difference between baseline and post-treatment values (MD) with 95%-Confidence Interval (95%CI) was calculated and meta-analyses were p…

Xenohormones and oral homeostasis : impact on taste preferences and salivary glands

2012

Oral homeostasis strongly influences taste perceptions. It depends on a healthy oral epithelium and salivary gland secretions, which are both regulated by sex hormones. The aim of this thesis was to identify the effect of an oral exposure to Bisphenol A, a food packaging and dental sealer component, and of a soy-diet containing phytoestrogens on oral homeostasisTwo experiments were conducted in adult rats: a dose-response study of BPA (5μg 12.5 mg / kj / day), and a study about the impact of a soy-diet on the BPA disrupting effects. By using gustation choice tests, and histological and qPCR-TR molecular approach, we identify for the first time an action of BPA on dry mouth. We found that BP…

Role of nitric oxide in tumor development. Role of HSF1 in development of zebrafish embryos in non heat-shocked conditions

2014

The use of animal models has led to the discovery of important mechanisms of biology development in general, and tumor development in particular, to establish and develop new treatments. The Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is increasingly used nowadays as part of this research because of its many advantages such as the transparency of the larvae, and the high homology with human. Several approaches have been developed in this fish, as the gene-knockdown in order to identify the role of a protein in the development, or the tumor transplantation of mammalian cells to study anti-tumor treatments response. It is in one of these two contexts that we studied the role of nitric oxide in tumor development i…

Vascular endothelial growth factor induces brain erythropoietin expression?

2006

To investigate whether the formation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) influences erythropoietin (EPO) expression in physiological conditions, we injected into the left lateral cerebral ventricle of the Mongolian gerbil an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector capable of expressing the 165-amino-acid isoform of VEGF (VEGF165). Twelve and 18 days after AAV vector injection, the experimental animals were sacrificed and expression of EPO was evaluated through immunohistochemical analysis of both the hippocampus and the frontal cortex. We observed that VEGF165 induces EPO expression in the hippocampal pyramidal layers and in the frontal cortex of the gerbil, particularly after the 18th…

Semaphorin 4D cooperates with VEGF to promote angiogenesis and tumor progression

2012

The semaphorins and plexins comprise a family of cysteine-rich proteins implicated in control of nerve growth and development and regulation of the immune response. Our group and others have found that Semaphorin 4D (SEMA4D) and its receptor, Plexin-B1, play an important role in tumor-induced angiogenesis, with some neoplasms producing SEMA4D in a manner analogous to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in order to attract Plexin-B1-expressing endothelial cells into the tumor for the purpose of promoting growth and vascularity. While anti-VEGF strategies have been the focus of most angiogenesis inhibition research, such treatment can lead to upregulation of pro-angiogenic factors that …

VEGF faktoru atklāšana acs priekšējas kameras šķidrumā - norma un patoloģija

2019

Fluorescein- and EGFR-Antibody Conjugated Silica Nanoparticles for Enhancement of Real-time Tumor Border Definition Using Confocal Laser Endomicrosco…

2019

Intraoperative definition of tumor free resection margins in head and neck cancer is challenging. In the current proof-of-principle study we evaluated a novel silica nanoparticle-based agent for its potential use as contrast enhancer. We synthesized silica nanoparticles with an average size of 45 nm and modified these particles with the fluorescence stain fluorescein isocyanate (FITC) for particle detection and with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-targeting antibodies for enhanced tumor specificity. The nanoparticles exhibited good biocompatibility and could be detected in vitro and in vivo by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Additionally, we show in an ex vivo setting that these…
