Dealing with rural-urban economic welfare challenges in the Nordic countries – a theory-based overview

2020

Abstract Geography has played an important part in creating the Nordic welfare states. This article discusses how the urban-rural dimension has been dealt with in the context of developing economic welfare. Four different policy interventions are presented: exogeneous shocks, buy out, palliative treatment and endogenous growth through innovation. Of these, the latter prevails in contemporary policy discussions. The application of policy measures varies substantially between the Nordic countries. We have different Nordic models rather than a single model. While in the aftermath of World War II economic development and welfare arguments combined to justify geographical centralisation, the pre…

Standard and Z2-Regge theory in two dimensions

1998

Abstract We qualitatively compare two versions of quantum Regge calculus by means of Monte Carlo simulations. In Standard Regge Calculus the quadratic link lengths of the triangulation vary continuously, whereas in the Z2-Regge Model they are restricted to two possible values. The goal is to determine whether the computationally more easily accessible Z2 model retains the characteristics of standard Regge theory.

How neutron scattering experiments can target the behavior of milk proteins

2012

Any protein ingested intentionally or non-intentionally can be considered as a food protein. The scope of food protein chemistry covers agricultural production, processing, packaging, storage, distribution, retail and protein function as ingredients. Protein quality is an important consideration to the consumer as is allergy and other adverse reactions to some proteins. The major protein ingredients, material having 5 to 10% or more proteins are: dried non-fat milk, whey, caseinate, collagen, gelatin, myosin, blood, soybean flour, wheat gluten, egg albumin, yolk. Protein ingredients are used to achieve a wide range of functionalities and usages like adhesion, emulsification, gelation and fo…

CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL SIGNALS MEDIATING CONSPECIFIC AND HETEROSPECIFIC AGGREGATION BEHAVIOR OF FIRST INSTAR STINK BUGS

2004

We investigated cues that mediate the aggregation behavior of immature pentatomid bugs by using nymphs of six different pentatomid bug species (Nezara viridula, Acrosternum hilare, Chlorochroa ligata, Chlorochroa sayi, Thyanta pallidovirens, and Euschistus conspersus). When first instars of any two species were put together in a Petri dish, they readily formed heterospecific aggregations similar to their natural conspecific aggregations. The chemical profiles of first and second instar nymphs of each species were determined by solvent extraction with pentane, followed by GC-MS analysis. Immature bugs of the different species had some compounds in common, and some that were more species spec…

L'ombreggiamento dovuto alle ostruzioni Un nuovo metodo fotografico

2013

A new, simplified photographic method is proposed to estimate the shading effects of obstructions. In spite of the complex mathematical background of the new tool, its practical application is very simple, and only requires the measurements of three angles for each photograph. The proposed method is particularly useful for overcoming the difficulties caused by the need to accurately describe surrounding objects to estimate shading effects. The new method uses the information contained in a picture and allows one to draw daily solar paths directly on the photograph. The procedure is useful to verify the suitability of a generic site for solar exploitation; its main benefit is the simplicity …

Die Sprache des Dinges. Heidegger und die Object-Oriented Ontology

2022

2016

A missed target of the Republican Italy is the adoption of an "organic" law on religious freedom. A lack determined in spite of the presence of intemal and extemal stimuli ( of cultural, poli ti cal and legal nature) that might have led to a different outcome: among the first, in particular, the chance to mark a discontinuity with the previous regime and to replace the "general" Legge sui Cu/ti ammessi (1929), conflicting with the Charta of 1948 on multiple fronts; regarding the latter, the suggestions (more or less compelling) occurred over time from Spain and Portugal, Countries with an history of relations between law, politics and religion in many respects parallel to the Italian one. Hvordan skapes rom for «omvendt deltakelse» i bærekraftig lokal samfunnsutvikling – aksjonsforskningens roller og bevegelser

2021
