Introduction and Psychometric Validation of the Resilience and Strain Questionnaire (ResQ-Care)— A Scale on the Ratio of Informal Caregivers' Resilie…
2021
Background: Informal caregivers are a particularly vulnerable population at risk for adverse health outcomes. Likewise, there are many scales available assessing individual caregiver burden and stress. Recently, resilience in caregivers gained increasing interest and scales started to assess resilience factors as well. Drawing on a homeostatic model, we developed a scale assessing both caregivers' stress and resilience factors. We propose four scales, two covering stress and two covering resilience factors, in addition to a sociodemographic basic scale. Based on the stress:resilience ratio, the individual risk of adverse health outcomes and suggestions for interventions can be derived.Metho…

Importance of the Motivational Climate in Goal, Enjoyment, and the Causes of Success in Handball Players
2017
The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of the motivational climate created by the coach and perceived by a group of young handball players on their goal orientations, their beliefs regarding reasons for success and their self-satisfaction. The study participants were 159 young handball players. Players were administered a battery composed of tests to measure the above-mentioned motivational constructs. Results showed that a perceived mastery-oriented motivational climate was positively related to a task-centered goal orientation, enjoyment, and a belief that success may be achieved through effort. In contrast, a perceived performance-orientated training climate was linked to an …
Impact of cancer on the effectiveness of cardiac Troponin I to predict right ventricular dysfunction in acute pulmonary embolism
2015
Background Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) are connected with a poor outcome in cancer patients. We aimed to investigate the impact of cancer on the effectiveness of cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) to predict right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) in acute PE. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data of 182 patients with confirmed PE. PE patients were subdivided into two groups: (i) with concomitant active cancer disease or history of cancer, and (ii) without known cancer. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves with area under the curve (AUC) was calculated for cTnI predicting RVD and related cut-off levels for both groups. Results Thirty-seven PE patients (20.3%) …

Signal Quality Monitoring: Correlation mask based on Ratio Test metrics for multipath detection
2009
In any measurement process, the observation is error affected: calibration and careful measuring procedures can reduce the error components but are unable to completely eliminate them. The capability to monitor and to detect any disturbances on the spreading sequences transmitted by the satellites is then of primary importance. Quality Control techniques based on a modified tracking architecture, which provides a certain number of correlator outputs, are analysed in this paper. Such outputs are used to build a metric used to monitor in real-time the reliability of the signal being tracked. In literature, several definitions of metrics can be found. The mainly used metrics are based on the f…
Urban Storm-Water Quality Management: Centralized versus Source Control
2010
The continuous growth of urban areas and the increasing public awareness of the environmental impacts of storm water have raised interest on the quality of the receiving water bodies. In the past two decades, many efforts have been directed at improving urban drainage systems by introducing mitigation measures to limit the negative environmental impacts of storm water. These mitigation measures are generally called best management practices (BMPs), sustainable urban drainage systems, or low impact developments, and they include practices such as infiltration and storage tanks that reduce the peak flow and retain some of the polluting materials. Choosing the best mitigation measure is still …
Do mental health and vitality mediate the relationship between perceived control over time and fear of COVID-19? A survey in an Italian sample
2021
Several studies evidenced increased elevated symptomatology levels in anxiety, general stress, depression, and post-traumatic stress related to COVID-19. Real difficulties in the effective control of time that could be responsible for mental health issues and loss of vitality were also reported. Prior literature highlighted how perceived control over time significantly modulates anxiety disorders and promotes psychological well-being. To verify the hypothesis that perceived control over time predicts fear of COVID-19 and mental health and vitality mediate this relationship, we performed an online survey on a sample of 301 subjects (female = 68%; Mage = 22.12, SD = 6.29; age range = 18–57 ye…
QSAR models for tyrosinase inhibitory activity description applying modern statistical classification techniques: A comparative study
2010
Abstract Cluster analysis (CA), Linear and Quadratic Discriminant Analysis (L(Q)DA), Binary Logistic Regression (BLR) and Classification Tree (CT) are applied on two datasets for description of tyrosinase inhibitory activity from molecular structures. The first set included 701 tyrosinase inhibitors (TI) that are used for performance of inhibitory and non-inhibitory activity and the second one is for potency estimation of active compounds. 2D TOMOCOMD-CARDD atom-based quadratic indices are computed as molecular descriptors. CA is used to “rational” design of training (TS) and prediction set (PS) but it shows of not being adequate as classification technique. On the first data, the overall a…
