"Horchata de chufa" is a traditional Spanish beverage produced from tiger nuts (Cyperus esculentus L.). Due to its richness in nutritional compounds, it is highly perishable and its conservation by pasteurization and/or adding preservatives is required. Although efficient, conventional thermal treatment for pasteurization induces changes in the nutritional and sensory properties. Replacing conventional pasteurization by non-thermal technologies such as pulsed electric fields, ultraviolet, and high pressure, combined with moderate temperatures (<40°C) allows a reduction of energy consumption, along with the preservation of the most thermo-sensitive molecules. Abstract Modifications of the X-ray diffraction line profiles by die pressing of fine grained powders of barium titanate have been studied. Two main parameters have been considered: the forming pressure and the mechanical characteristics of the binder. The higher the forming pressure, the greater the modifications of the line profiles. Furthermore, the phenomena seems to be related to pressing only; no significant effect related to the nature of the binder has been shown. Abstract Electrically insulating flow channel inserts (FCI) may be needed in liquid-based breeding blanket concepts to electrically decouple the metal flow from the strong magnetic field in a future fusion reactor. Although the magnetohydrodynamic simulation demonstrates a reduction of the pressure drop when a sandwich-like steel-alumina-steel FCI is employed, the tritium production efficiency in the breeding zone of a breeding blanket is limited to 550 °C due to the steel corrosion. Valence Topological Charge-Transfer Indices for Dipole Moments

Valence topological charge-transfer (CT) indices are applied to the calculation of dipole moments. The dipole moments calculated by algebraic and vector semisums of the CT indices are defined. The combination of the CT indices allows the estimation of the dipole moments. The model is generalized for molecules with heteroatoms. The ability of the indices for the description of the molecular charge distribution is established by comparing them with the dipole moment of the valence-isoelectronic series of benzene and styrene.
