Diffractive optics for processing ultrashort light pulses
2011
In this work we combine, in principle, two disjoint optical fields, diffractive optics and ultrashort light radiation. This combination allows us to manipulate in a very unconventional manner femtosecond pulses and, on the other hand, to implement a set of novel applications. In our case we have focused our attention on material processing and biophotonics applications.
Magnetic Gradiometer for Detection of Zero- and Ultralow-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
2019
Magnetic sensors are important for detecting nuclear magnetization signals in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). As a complementary analysis tool to conventional high-field NMR, zero- and ultralow-field (ZULF) NMR detects nuclear magnetization signals in the sub-microtesla regime. Current ZULF NMR systems are always equipped with high-quality magnetic shieldings to ensure that ambient magnetic field noise does not dwarf the magnetization signal. An alternative approach is to separate the magnetization signal from the noise based on their differing spatial profiles, as can be achieved using a magnetic gradiometer. Here, we present a gradiometric ZULF NMR spectrometer with a magnetic gradient …
Spatial Solitons in Nonlinear Photonic Crystal Fibers
2017
This chapter aims to review the most relevant results on solitons in nonlinear solid-core photonic crystal fibers since their introduction about fifteen years ago. These include fundamental solitons and vortices, as well as vector systems of two fundamental, vortex or mixed components. Also other related systems as solitons in double-core photonic crystal fibers will be reviewed. The presentation will describe the mode families as well as their stability properties. The work is intended to be a comprehensive document on the field and provide a fast update to the reader as well as the necessary sources for a further detailed documentation.
Monte Carlo Study of Diffusion Noise Reduction in GaAs Operating under Periodic Conditions
2009
The effects of an external correlated source of noise on the intrinsic carrier noise in a low‐doped GaAs bulk, operating under periodic conditions, are investigated. Numerical results confirm that the dynamical response of electrons driven by a high‐frequency periodic electric field receives a benefit by the constructive interplay between the fluctuating field and the intrinsic noise of the system. In particular, in this contribute we show a nonmonotonic behavior of the integrated spectral density, which value critically depends on the correlation time of the external noise source.
Diffusion in Flashing Periodic Potentials
2005
The one-dimensional overdamped Brownian motion in a symmetric periodic potential modulated by external time-reversible noise is analyzed. The calculation of the effective diffusion coefficient is reduced to the mean first passage time problem. We derive general equations to calculate the effective diffusion coefficient of Brownian particles moving in arbitrary supersymmetric potential modulated: (i) by external white Gaussian noise and (ii) by Markovian dichotomous noise. For both cases the exact expressions for the effective diffusion coefficient are derived. We obtain acceleration of diffusion in comparison with the free diffusion case for fast fluctuating potentials with arbitrary profil…
Unconventional, efficient and flexible bifocal lens design by metalens and AFA beam combination
2019
In the field of metasurface-based light focusing, both convex metalenses with parabolic phase profile and autofocused Airy (AFA) beams play essential roles. AFA beam generation as a combination of two convergent mirrored Airy beams leaves the space between the two launched Airy profiles inefficient with zero amplitude transmission and constant phase distribution. In this paper, we propose using this inutile space as an independent metalens. We show that coincidence of the focal spot of the metalens to that of the AFA beam will increase the focusing intensity more than 24 percent at its focal point. It is shown that using the nonoperative space between the two launched Airy beams as an indep…
Nonlocal Fractional Dynamics for Different Terminal Densities
2018
We study the effect of confining potentials, generated by different equilibrium (long-time asymptotic or terminal) probability densities, on nonGaussian stochastic processes, described by Lévy–Schrödinger semigroup dynamics. The former densities belong to the family of so-called M-Wright functions of index ν. Using analytical and numerical arguments, we demonstrate that properly tailored confining potentials can generate the Gaussian distribution (which is also a member of M-Wright family at ν = 1/2) at final stages of time evolution. This means that the Gaussian distribution (and other sufficiently fast decaying distributions like exponential one) can emerge in the differential equation wi…
Monte Carlo analysis of electronic noise in semiconductors under sub‐terahertz cyclostationary mixed fields
2006
This paper reports the results of Monte Carlo simulations of electronic noise in a GaAs bulk driven by two mixed high-frequency large-amplitude periodic electric fields. Under these conditions, the system response shows some peculiarities in the noise performance, such as a resonant-like enhancement of the spectra near the two frequencies of the applied fields. The relations among the frequency response and the velocity fluctuations as a function of intensities and frequencies of the sub-terahertz mixed excitation fields have been investigated. Wave-mixing effects on electronic noise in semiconductors
2006
The results of a Monte Carlo analysis of hot-electron intrinsic noise in a n-type GaAs bulk driven by two mixed large-amplitude alternating electric fields having frequency in the subterahertz range are presented. The noise properties are investigated by studying the velocity autocorrelation function and the noise spectrum. We explored the relations among the frequency response and the velocity fluctuations as a function of the frequencies and intensities of the mixed fields. When the semiconductor is driven by two mixed ciclostationary electric fields, a resonant-like enhancement of the spectra near the two frequencies of the applied fields is found.
An all-fiber RF modulation technique: frequency response calibration of optical detectors
1995
Two all-fiber Mach-Zender interferometers have been designed to generate RF modulated light at 633 nm and 830 nm. The interferometers are scanned with a piezoelectric tube driven at its fundamental frequency of resonance. The actual experimental arrangement covers the frequency range 1 kHz to 1 GHz. The technique combines several interesting features such as the simplicity, the stability and reliability of all-fiber systems and the use of low-frequency electronics to control and generate the RF modulated light. >
