The features of electronics structure of the multichannel scintillation module for the EMMA experiment
2011
A brief description of the developed structural electric diagrams of 16-channel scintillation module for the underground EMMA experiment, the basic characteristics and parameters of the electrical diagrams of this module are presented. Multi-pixel photodiodes operating in a limited Geiger mode are used for photoreadout of the scintillator detectors in 16-channel scintillation module. The method of the automatic tuning of the photosensors gain based on the stabilization of an average counting rate of the scintillation detectors from gamma rays of a natural radioactive background is described. peerReviewed
20 GHz arbitrary radio-frequency waveform generator based on incoherent pulse shaping
2008
We demonstrate a new approach of photonically assisted radiofrequency (RF) waveform generation using a spectrally incoherent light source. The system is based on the so-called generalized frequency-to-time mapping operation. In this work, external modulation of the source is done by concatenating two electro-optic Mach-Zehnder modulators properly biased to achieve short pulse gates which allow for broad bandwidth electrical signals. Also, the spectral shaping stage is performed prior to O/E conversion. A detailed theoretical analysis demonstrates that even in this case the frequency-to-time mapping is preserved. The key is that the noise level is greatly reduced because the amplitude filter…
A signal processing scheme based on high-frequency electromechanical oscillations in nanostructures
2009
We explore the characteristics of a new signal processing scheme based on the high-frequency electromechanical oscillations of a nanostructure formed by an oscillating metallic nanoparticle connected to the left and right electrodes by soft links. Because this system shows resonant behavior when the frequency of the applied electric potential is close to the characteristic natural frequency of the oscillating nanoparticle, a parallel arrangement of nanostructures with different frequencies can be excited selectively by an external time-dependent electrical signal with the appropriate resonant frequencies. The highly nonlinear system response makes it possible to devise a signal processing s…

Demonstration of a Plasmonic MMI Switch in 10-Gb/s True Data Traffic Conditions
2012
International audience; We report the first experimental performance evaluation of a 75-mu m-long plasmonic multimode interference switch that is hetero-integrated on a silicon-on-insulator platform, operating with 10-Gb/s data signals. The switch exhibits a 2.9-mu s response time and 44.5% modulation depth, while the extinction ratio between the ports alters from 5.4 to -1.5 dB for 35-mW electrical (switching) power. Error-free performance was achieved.
Performance evaluation of a very high resolution small animal PET imager using silicon scatter detectors
2007
A very high resolution positron emission tomography (PET) scanner for small animal imaging based on the idea of inserting a ring of high-granularity solid-state detectors into a conventional PET scanner is under investigation. A particularly interesting configuration of this concept, which takes the form of a degenerate Compton camera, is shown capable of providing sub-millimeter resolution with good sensitivity. We present a Compton PET system and estimate its performance using a proof-of-concept prototype. A prototype single-slice imaging instrument was constructed with two silicon detectors 1 mm thick, each having 512 1.4 mm x 1.4 mm pads arranged in a 32 x 16 array. The silicon detector…
Singular behavior of a vortex layer in the zero thickness limit
2017
The aim of this paper is to study the Euler dynamics of a 2D periodic layer of non uniform vorticity. We consider the zero thickness limit and we compare the Euler solution with the vortex sheet evolution predicted by the Birkhoff-Rott equation. The well known process of singularity formation in shape of the vortex sheet correlates with the appearance of several complex singularities in the Euler solution with the vortex layer datum. These singularities approach the real axis and are responsible for the roll-up process in the layer motion.
Towards high photon-number soft x-ray lasers
2011
We present an experimental design to independently pump two soft X-ray laser media suitable for a seed-amplifier configuration. Both the seed and the amplifier target are operated in the TCE scheme utilizing the DGRIP technique with its intrinsic travelling wave excitation. Controlled injection of the seed X-ray laser into the amplifier medium is realized via a spherical XUV mirror. The experimental design is perfectly appropriate for benchmarking combined simulations of the ARWEN and DeepOne code. A first experiment at the PHELIX laser utilizing this scheme has been conducted, demonstrating signs of amplification and allowing for the direct measurement of the gain life time of a Ni-like si…
Perturbations, internal modes and noise in dispersion-managed soliton transmission
2005
We apply the theory of soliton internal modes to characterize the dynamics of small perturbations in the dispersion-managed soliton transmission regime. We extend our study to the case of random initial perturbations calculating several realizations and obtaining accurate descriptions of their statistics.
Optical frequency combs for space applications
2016
Optical frequency comb-based high resolution laser spectroscopy has been demonstrated in space under micro-gravity on two sounding rocket based experiments. The comb has been used to simultaneously measure two different atomic transitions.
