Fault-Tolerant Application-Specific Topology-Based NoC and Its Prototype on an FPGA

2021

Application-Specific Networks-on-Chips (ASNoCs) are suitable communication platforms for meeting current application requirements. Interconnection links are the primary components involved in communication between the cores of an ASNoC design. The integration density in ASNoC increases with continuous scaling down of the transistor size. Excessive integration density in ASNoC can result in the formation of thermal hotspots, which can cause a system to fail permanently. As a result, fault-tolerant techniques are required to address the permanent faults in interconnection links of an ASNoC design. By taking into account link faults in the topology, this paper introduces a fault-tolerant appli…

Flexible Spare Core Placement in Torus Topology based NoCs and its validation on an FPGA

2021

In the nano-scale era, Network-on-Chip (NoC) interconnection paradigm has gained importance to abide by the communication challenges in Chip Multi-Processors (CMPs). With increased integration density on CMPs, NoC components namely cores, routers, and links are susceptible to failures. Therefore, to improve system reliability, there is a need for efficient fault-tolerant techniques that mitigate permanent faults in NoC based CMPs. There exists several fault-tolerant techniques that address the permanent faults in application cores while placing the spare cores onto NoC topologies. However, these techniques are limited to Mesh topology based NoCs. There are few approaches that have realized …

Low energy routing platforms for optical interconnects using active plasmonics integrated with Silicon Photonics

2013

Power consumption and bandwidth of electronics appear as the main set of technology barriers in next-generation Data Center and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. The limited capacity and pitch lane of electrically wired interconnects require the development of new disruptive technologies to cope with the massive amount of data moving across all hierarchical communication levels, namely rack-to-rack, backplane, chip-to-chip and even on-chip interconnections. Plasmonics comes indeed as a disruptive technology that enables seamless interoperability between light beams and electronic control signals through the underlying metallic layer, providing thereby an inherent energy-efficie…

Simple, Fast, Bright, and Stable Light Sources

2012

In this work we show that solution-processed light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on only an ionic iridium complex and a small amount of ionic liquid exhibit exceptionally good performances when applying a pulsed current: sub-second turn-on times and almost constant high luminances (>600 cd m(-2) ) and power efficiencies over the first 600 h. This demonstrates the potential of LECs for applications in solid-state signage and lighting.

Towards Si-based photonic circuits: Integrating photonic crystals in silicon-on-insulator platforms

2007

In the context of Si-based photonics, we report on a strategy to integrate two optical components, a 3D photonic crystal light emitter and a waveguide, in a silicon-on-insulator patterned substrate. Self-assembled colloidal photonic crystals are produced with high crystalline quality and spatial selectivity. Plane wave expansion and finite-difference time-domain have been used to find suitable configurations for positioning emitters and waveguides. The first steps toward the realisation of these configurations are presented.

Influence of mobile ions on the electroluminescence characteristics of methylammonium lead iodide perovskite diodes

2016

In this work, we study the effect of voltage bias on the optoelectronic behavior of methylammonium lead iodide planar diodes. Upon biasing the diodes with a positive voltage, the turn-on voltage of the electroluminescence diminishes and its intensity substantially increases. This behavior is reminiscent of that observed in light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), single-layer electroluminescent devices in which the charge injection is assisted by the accumulation of ions at the electrode interface. Because of this mechanism, performances are largely independent from the work function of the electrodes. The similarities observed between planar perovskite diodes and LECs suggest that mobi…

Run duration effects on the hydrodynamic properties of a loam soil estimated by steady-state infiltration methods

2020

Steady-state methods for the analysis of single-ring infiltration data are commonly applied. However, the duration of an infiltrometer experiment is often established quite subjectively based on the assumption that in general infiltration stabilizes rather quickly in the field. For a loam soil, the effect of the duration of a beerkan run on sorptivity, S, and saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks, was tested by using the BEST (Beerkan Estimation of Soil Transfer parameters)-steady method and SSBI (Steady version of the Simplified method based on a Beerkan Infiltration run) method for data analysis. The standard experiment, based on a total of 15 water volumes each establishing an initial pon…

Optical absorption of torus-shaped metal nanoparticles in the visible range

2007

Received 22 November 2007; published 19 December 2007We theoretically and experimentally investigated the optical response of a thin metal nanotorus in the visiblerange. The close formulas describing the extinction cross sections of a torus are obtained in the nonretardedapproximation. We demonstrate a good agreement between numerical simulations and experimental data. Ourfindings show that the main resonance is highly sensitive to the external medium and the geometrical param-eters of the particle.DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.76.245422 PACS number s : 78.67.Bf, 73.20.Mf, 78.20.Ci

Optimization of surface plasmons launching from subwavelength hole arrays: modelling and experiments

2009

International audience; The launching of surface plasmons by micro-gratings of subwavelength apertures milled in a thick metal film is important for the development of surface plasmon based circuits. By comparing the near-field optical images of such surface plasmon sources with the results of a Huygens-Fresnel principle based scattering model, we show that the properties of the locally launched SP beams such as divergence or uniformity can be tuned by adjusting the shape of the micro-gratings. This allows us to propose an optimized source array well adapted for providing a narrow, collimated and uniform beam. (c) 2007 Optical Society of America.

Differential method for modelling dielectric-loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides

2008

International audience; This paper demonstrates the efficiency of the differential method, a conventional grating theory, to investigate dielectric loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides (DLSPPWs), known to be a potential solution for optical interconnects. The method is used to obtain the mode effective indices (both real and imaginary parts) and the mode profiles. The results obtained with the differential method are found to be in good agreement with those provided by the effective index method or finite elements. The versatility of the differential method is demonstrated by considering complex configurations such as trapezoidal waveguides or DLSPPWs lying on a finite width metal st…
