Experimental Comparison of Type-1 and Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controllers for the Control of Level and Temperature in a Vessel

Abstract The objective of this experimental study is to compare the performance of type-1 and type-2 fuzzy logic controllers on a real system where the control of liquid level and temperature are considered. By the use of genetic algorithms it is possible to optimize the fuzzy sets of each fuzzy controller assuring high control performance. The experimental results show that a better control in terms of robustness can be achieved by type-2 fuzzy logic controllers.
CFD Simulation of Particle Suspension Height in Stirred Vessels

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation capabilities for stirred solid–liquid dense systems are explored. These systems may give rise to the formation of a thick and well defined clear liquid layer in the upper part of the vessel, whose extension progressively reduces with increasing impeller speed. Experimental measurements of the suspension height (the height of the particle laden layer) were carried out at various agitation speeds for a variety of solid–liquid systems in a fully baffled transparent tank. Design and control of an innovative electronic load for the photovoltaic module characterization

The paper proposes a new electronic load setup for a fast, low-cost and standard-compliant characterization of a photovoltaic module. The approach is based on the use of a DC-DC converter, exploiting its ability to emulate a resistor. In particular, a Buck-Boost converter topology is employed. The model is implemented in the Simulink/SimPower System environment. A commercial PV Conergy E215P photovoltaic module is used in order to evaluate the performances of the proposed electronic load and to validate the proposed approach.

Optimized energy management is considered here as the operation of energy and power flow control in the aim of attaining minimum cost or minimum power losses while meeting technical constraints. Organic solar cells (OSCs) have made very good improvements in recent years, reaching power conversion efficiencies above 10% [1]. This have been achieved through chemical synthesis of new organic materials with improved properties and also by new and more or less complex structures such as donor/acceptor (D/A) or bulk heterojunction OSCs. Here we report the results of initial development of OSCs based on the simple D/A heterojunction [2]. Copper phtalocyanine (CuPc) is used as donor organic material, whereas perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) and fullerene (C60) as acceptor organic materials. Multidirectional Scratch Detection and Restoration in Digitized Old Images

Line scratches are common defects in old archived videos, but similar imperfections may occur in printed images, in most cases by reason of improper handling or inaccurate preservation of the support. Once an image is digitized, its defects become part of that image. Many state-of-the-art papers deal with long, thin, vertical lines in old movie frames, by exploiting both spatial and temporal information. In this paper we aim to face with a more challenging and general problem: the analysis of line scratches in still images, regardless of their orientation, color, and shape. We present a detection/restoration method to process this defect.

Scaling progresses has the benefit of making chips always more powerful. On the other hand, when there is a failure, the analysis of such advanced devices has became more sensitive. The defect localization step of this process is the critical one.
