A numerical study of attraction/repulsion collective behavior models: 3D particle analyses and 1D kinetic simulations

39p; International audience; We study at particle and kinetic level a collective behavior model based on three phenomena: self-propulsion, friction (Rayleigh effect) and an attractive/repulsive (Morse) potential rescaled so that the total mass of the system remains constant independently of the number of particles N . In the first part of the paper, we introduce the particle model: the agents are numbered and described by their position and velocity. The search for mimicking natural living and non-living systems with synthetic products leads to the fabrication of advanced colloidal morphologies with hierarchical micro- and nanostructures. Different chemical routes toward the synthesis of colloids with complex morphologies are presented and a tentative analogy between these routes and the four basic arithmetic operations is proposed.

Se realizó un estudio taxonómico de los hidrozoos de la familia Aglaopheniidae colectados sobre fondos blandos del Caribe colombiano entre 20 y 500 m de profundidad en marzo de 2001 por la expedición INVEMAR MACROFAUNA II. Fueron encontrados dos géneros y seis especies destacándose Aglaophenia elongata, A. lophocarpa y A. tridentata como nuevos registros para aguas colombianas y además se amplió la distribución batimétrica de Aglaophenia latecarinata y A. tridentata. Shelf life assessment of industrial durum wheat bread as a function of packaging system

This study compared the effect of different packaging systems on industrial durum wheat bread shelf-life, with regard to thermoformed packaging (TF) and flow-packaging (FP). Two TFs having different thickness and one FP were compared by assessing physico-chemical and sensorial properties and volatile compounds of sliced bread during 90 days of storage. Texture, aw and bread moisture varied according to a first-order kinetic model, with FP samples ageing faster than TFs. Sensorial features such as consistency, stale odor, and sour odor, increased their intensity during storage. Furans decreased, whereas hexanal increased. Reducing the Bias: How Perspective Taking Affects First- and Third-Person Perceptions of Media Influence

Third- and first-person perceptions (TPPs/FPPs) are considered to be biased judgments of media influence on self and others. Research suggests that perspective taking, i.e., thinking from another person’s position, decreases perceptual gaps between self and others via assimilation. In a two-factorial experiment (n = 431), we test whether this effect of perspective taking (Factor 1) holds true for the presumed influence of desirable and undesirable messages (Factor 2). Results indicate that perspective taking significantly reduces TPPs in the case of an undesirable message but not FPPs that are provoked by the desirable message. The aim of this study was to systematically review lay health worker (LHW)–led self-management interventions for adults with long-term conditions to see how the interventions have been implemented and to compose a synthesis of research findings, taking into consideration the intervention components that have been applied. We conducted systematic searches for articles published between January 2010 and December 2015 in five databases: Cochrane, MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Web of Science.
