On a Non-periodic Shrinking Generator

2011

We present a new non-periodic random number generator based on the shrinking generator. The A-sequence is still generated using a LFSR, but the S-sequence is replaced by a finitely generated bi-ideal - a non-periodic sequence. The resulting pseudo-random sequence performs well in statistical tests. We show a method for the construction of an infinite number of finitely generated bi-ideals from a given A-sequence, such that the resulting sequence of the shrinking generator is nonperiodic. Further we prove the existence of what we call universal finitely generated bi-ideals that produce non-periodic words when used as the S-sequence of a shrinking generator for all non-trivial periodic A-sequ…

Non-self-adjoint resolutions of the identity and associated operators

2013

Closed operators in Hilbert space defined by a non-self-adjoint resolution of the identity $$\{X(\lambda )\}_{\lambda \in {\mathbb R}}$$ , whose adjoints constitute also a resolution of the identity, are studied. In particular, it is shown that a closed operator $$B$$ has a spectral representation analogous to the familiar one for self-adjoint operators if and only if $$B=\textit{TAT}^{-1}$$ where $$A$$ is self-adjoint and $$T$$ is a bounded inverse.

WQ*-algebras of measurable operators

2012

Every C*-algebra \(\mathfrak{A}\) has a faithful *-representation π in a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\). Consequently it is natural to pose the following question: under which conditions, the completion of a C*-algebra in a weaker than the given one topology, can be realized as a quasi *-algebra of operators? The present paper presents the possibility of extending the well known Gelfand — Naimark representation of C*-algebras to certain Banach C*-modules.

Closeness and distance through the agentive authorial voice: construing credibility in promotional discourse.

2020

Credibility is a function associated with promotional genres and persuasion, and a powerful marketing concept (Eisend, 2006; Ming, 2006) which provides trustworthiness about the quality of products or services offered by hotels (Suau-Jiménez, 2012a, 2019). It is partly attained through the hotel‘s self-mentioning in websites. When this self-mentioning is agentive with action verbs, the main instantiation is the pronoun we, projecting closeness and assertiveness. However, this self-representation is also construed with depersonalized realizations like the hotel‘s proper name, other nominalizations or even pronouns like it and they, which provide attenuating aspects and create a sense of dist…

Measuring Public Speaking Anxiety: Self-report, behavioral, and physiological

2021

Self-reports are typically used to assess public speaking anxiety. In this study, we examined whether self-report, observer report, and behavioral and physiological reactivity were associated with each other during a speech challenge task. A total of 95 university students completed a self-report measure of public speaking anxiety before and after the speech challenge. Speech duration (i.e., behavioral measure), physiological reactivity, as well as speech performance evaluated by the participants and observers were also recorded. The results suggest that self-reported public speaking anxiety predicts speech duration, as well as speech quality, as rated by the participants themselves and ob…

High-efficiency Q-switched erbium fiber laser using a Bragg grating-based modulator

2002

Abstract In this work we analyze the behavior of an erbium-doped fiber laser which is based on a simple scheme. Excitation of the active medium is performed in the 980 nm pump band with a CW semiconductor laser source. Two fiber Bragg gratings acting as mirrors of the Fabry–Perot laser cavity were used. One of these gratings was mounted over a piezoelectric (PZT) element. By applying voltage pulses to the piezoelectric, the laser cavity was temporally modulated and Q-switched laser pulses up to 530 mW peak powers at 3 kHz were obtained. Typical laser emission of 2–3 μs temporal widths and 0.1 nm of optical bandwidth have been achieved when the system was operated at 18.5 kHz repetition rate…

Monte Carlo simulation of many-arm star polymers in two-dimensional good solvents in the bulk and at a surface

1991

A Monte Carlo technique is proposed for the simulation of statistical properties of many-arm star polymers on lattices. In this vectorizing algorithm, the length of each arml is increased by one, step by step, from a starting configuration withl=1 orl=2 which is generated directly. This procedure is carried out for a large sample (e.g., 100,000 configurations). As an application, we have studied self-avoiding stars on the square lattice with arm lengths up tol max=125 and up tof=20 arms, both in the bulk and in the geometry where the center of the star is adsorbed on a repulsive surface. The total number of configurations, which behaves asN∼l γ G–1μ fl , whereμ=2.6386 is the usual effective…

Networks of Manufacturers and Retailers

2005

We study the endogenous formation of networks between manufacturers of differentiated goods and multi-product retailers who interact in a successive duopoly. Joint consent is needed to establish and/or maintain a costly link between a manufacturer and a retailer. We find that only three distribution networks are stable for particular values of the degree of product differentiation and link costs: (i) the non-exclusive distribution and non-exclusive dealing network in which both retailers distribute both products is stable for intermediate degree of product differentiation and small link costs; (ii) the exclusive distribution and exclusive dealing network in which each retailer distributes a…

Distritos industriales y renta económica: el efecto distrito – renta

2019
