Observation of an Excited $B^{\pm}_c$ Meson State with the ATLAS Detector
2014
A search for excited states of the B±c meson is performed using 4.9 fb-1 of 7 TeV and 19.2 fb-1 of 8 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. A new state is observed through its hadronic transition to the ground state, with the latter detected in the decay B±c→J/ψπ±. The state appears in the m(Bc±π+π-)-m(Bc±)-2m(π±) mass difference distribution with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The mass of the observed state is 6842±4±5 MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. The mass and decay of this state are consistent with expectations for the second S-wave state of the B±c meson, B±c(2S).
The Effect of CMC in Business Emails in Lingua Franca: Discourse Features and Misunderstandings
2018
The paper argues that everyday exchange of business emails produces a development in the work-group relationship, which, in turn, makes new communication styles possible and acceptable by the users' habit to computer-mediated forms, even in unbalanced professional exchanges. The focus is on the (spoken) discourse features of email messages in a self-compiled corpus of selected computer-mediated business emails, produced by five participants over three months (October 2015 – February 2016). The exchange, involving the use of English by non-native speaker interactants (in particular, Business English as a Lingua Franca (BELF)), as well as language adjustments in a computer-mediated exchange, …
Spontaneous growth of 2D coordination polymers on functionalized ferromagnetic surfaces
2018
2D coordination polymers grow spontaneously on reactive surfaces due to surface oxidation. The growth process is observed in real time.
Strategies for the extension of the shelf life of ready to eat prickly pear fruits
2012
The prickly pear fruit (Opuntia ficus indica L. Miller) belongs to the Cactaceae family. The fruit is a berry, composed by an epicarp and the pulp, which represents the edible portion. At maturation, the epicarp turns yellow, red or white, depending on the cultivar. In Italy, the prickly pear is mainly cultivated in Sicily (90% of the national production). The fruit is very sensitive to low storage temperatures (< 5°C) which cause chilling injuries. The fruits can be successfully commercialized as a ready-to-eat product, peeled and suitably packaged. The main limit to its production is the formation of off-flavours due to different factors, such as the growth of microorganism and the action…
How does eating in the absence of hunger in children relate to child's BMI, inhibitory control and to maternal controlling feeding practices?
2021
International audience; Young children have an innate ability to self-regulate their food-intake by following their inner sensations of hunger and satiation. Children's temperamental traits and environmental factors, such as controlling feeding practices, can alter their self-regulation abilities and can induce weight gain in the long-term. The current study aimed to study how young children's eating in the absence of hunger (EAH) is related to their level of inhibitory control, body mass index (BMI) and maternal controlling feeding practices (food as reward, restriction for health, restriction for weight control). Mothers of 621 French children aged 2.00-6.97 years (51% boys, M = 4.11 year…
Assessing, measuring and modelling erosion in calanchi areas: A review
2016
Calanchi are erosion landforms characterised by a heavily dissected terrain with steep, unvegetated slopes and channels with a dendritic pattern, which rapidly incise and extend headwards. Recent literature focusing on badland systems highlights their similarity with other larger fluvial landforms, stating that these behave as a full size laboratory, due to their rapid development in space and time and to the diversity of geomorphic processes involved. In this paper, a brief review of the most important results on badland research is firstly presented. Then, the morphometric similarity between calanchi and other erosion landforms is discussed. Finally, models quantitatively relating the vol…
TEENAGERS’ PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SOCIAL BALANCE AS A DEVELOPMENTAL PROBLEM
2016
Promotion of teenagers’ and youth’s physical and mental health is mentioned among the priorities in the state program for the health promotion of the country’s population. Problems of teenagers’ behaviour and communication, emotional reactions, as well as their learning motives and success are often related to their health problems. The investigation verifies that the problems of balance between the teenagers’ physical, mental and social development are often under-evaluated, especially at their initial stage. This might be a reason why the above mentioned problems are un-addressed and related to teenagers behaviour and communication.Theoretical analysis and empirical investigations are gui…
Macroeconomic fluctuations and educational inequalities in suicide mortality among working-age men in the Baltic countries and Finland in 2000–2015: …
2020
Abstract Introduction In the 2000s, the Baltic countries experienced unprecedented economic growth followed by a deep recession. This study aimed to examine changes and educational inequalities in suicide mortality among working-age men in the Baltic countries and Finland in relation to macroeconomic fluctuations. Methods We analysed changes in overall suicide mortality and by educational level between the 2000–2003, 2004–2007, 2008–2011 and 2012–2015 periods among men aged 30–64 years using census-linked longitudinal mortality data. We estimated age-standardised mortality rates, mortality rate ratios (Poisson regression), the relative index of inequality and slope index of inequality. Resu…
A Formal Model for Developing of the self-Diagosing and Self-Repairing 8-Bits Microprocessor, and Its Investigation Using Simulation
1986
Abstract The complete model of functional diagnostics is theoretically described. It specifies the conditions, which must be satisfied if the system to be self-diagnosable. The general principles of constructing self-diagnosable systems are enumerated. The model enables the realization of self-renewal, too. The model has been developed on the basis of the works by Preparata, Metze, Chien (1967) and Hakimi, Amin (1974) . The model contains a method of diagnostics completely separeted from the physical structure of the system. Recent results (Gruber, 1978; Swiatek, 1982) indicate that it is only necessary to know the set of transformations realized by the circuit. The model has been applied t…
