After describing the goals of these conferences, their types, their social costs and the positive externalities they may produce, this paper analyzes which type of academic conference could be most appropriate in order to maximize social welfare, which the practices of the Spanish legal scholars in this respect are and why such practices do not always seem to be the best ones from a public interest point of view.

Entre las formulas tradicionales para seleccionar los sujetos objeto de una inspección se ha introducido recientemente el uso del big data y los algoritmos. Esta tecnología promete mejorar los “aciertos” a la hora de seleccionar qué empresas se van a investigar por posibles ilícitos. Esto puede plantear problemas jurídicos respecto a la protección de los datos, en la aplicación del principio de igualdad y no discriminación en la selección de objetivos y las obligaciones de trasparencia. En este trabajo se analizan los retos legales que ello representa, con especial reconocimiento de los principios aplicables y la incipiente doctrina judicial en países de nuestro entorno.
Altruism in business – an empirical study of philanthropy in the small business context

Why do we observe some LDCs objecting the prospect of a Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI), although they have been keen to liberalize investment in preferential agreements in recent years? In this paper, we analyse the issue of MAI implementation and assess the welfare consequences of such kind of agreements. In our model, participation to MAI involves a trade-off between less rent extraction from multinational firms (MNEs) and more abundant FDI inflows. Las organizaciones de voluntariado están recibiendo una creciente atención por parte de los analistas de la acción colectiva. Para unos, en su fulgurante auge reciente, se manifiesta la estrategia privatizadora del Estado de Bienestar; para otros, son expresión de un nuevo movimiento social. En este artículo los autores utilizan la amplia evidencia reunida en el caso valenciano, mediante distintas estrategias de exploración (entrevistas abiertas, encuestas, análisis de casos), para someter a examen dichas tesis.
