Aposematic theory has historically predicted that predators should select for warning signals to converge on a single form, as a result of frequency-dependent learning. However, widespread variation in warning signals is observed across closely related species, populations and, most problematically for evolutionary biologists, among individuals in the same population. Recent research has yielded an increased awareness of this diversity, challenging the paradigm of signal monomorphy in aposematic animals. Invertebrate biomass is considered one of the main factors driving processes in ecosystems. It can be measured directly, primarily by weighing individuals, but more often indirect estimators are used. We developed two indirect and non-destructive approaches to estimate biomass of small invertebrates in a simple manner. The first one was based on clay modelling and the second one was based on image analysis implemented with open-source software. Furthermore, we tested the accuracy of the widely used geometric approximation method (third method). Background: Children’s first years of life are crucial to their future health. Studies show that a varied diet with a high intake of vegetables is positive in several domains of health. The present low vegetable intake amongst children is, therefore, a concern. Food neophobia is a common barrier to vegetable intake in children. As most Norwegian children attend kindergarten from an early age, kindergartens could contribute to the prevention of food neophobia and the promotion of vegetable intake. This work focuses on the dynamics of vegetation stripes in sloped semi-arid environments in the presence of secondary seed dispersal and inertial effects. To this aim, a hyperbolic generalization of the Klausmeier model that encloses the advective downhill transport of plant biomass is taken into account. Analytical investigations were performed to deduce the wave and Turing instability loci at which oscillatory and stationary vegetation patterns arise, respectively. The study of auxiliary verbs in compound tenses («haver» vs. «Ésser») in Old Catalan is a topic discussed in many works. But no research deeply analysing literary works of the time and using an accurate methodology is available. Our purpose is to show that so significant medieval literary works such as «Llibre de Meravelles» by Ramon Llull, «Llibre dels Fets» by King James I & «Tirant lo Blanch», can also provide very valuable information to understand the phenomenon of change of auxiliary. Referring to usage frequencies, we show that chronology plays a great role in these alternations and outline a whole series of factors that explain the observed evolutive tendencies.

Lähestyn aihetta triangulaation avulla eli yhdistämällä eri aineistoja ja metodeja. Tutkimukseni aineistona toimivat teemahaastattelut ja Helsingin Sanomien sunnuntaisivuilla 15.4.2017 ilmestynyt juttuni Raskausviikko 23 ja jutun tekoprosessista pitämäni työpäiväkirja. Selvitän pro gradu -työssäni, millainen on datajournalismin työprosessi Helsingin Sanomien, Ylen uutis- ja ajankohtaisohjelmien, sekä Svenska Ylen toimituksissa. Kuvaan toimitusten datajournalistisen prosessin tyypillistä kulkua ja haasteita, joita sen tekijät kohtaavat. Tämän lisäksi luotaan datajournalismin tulevaisuudennäkymiä. Helsingin Sanomien datadeski, Ylen Plus-deski ja Svenska Ylen Grävnavet valikoituivat tutkimuskohteiksi, koska ne ovat Suomen ainoat säännöllisesti datajournalismia tuottavat ryhmät.
