Maladaptive and adaptive emotion regulation through music a behavioral and neuroimaging study of males and females

2015

Music therapists use guided affect regulation in the treatment of mood disorders. However, self-directed uses of music in affect regulation are not fully understood. Some uses of music may have negative effects on mental health, as can non music regulation strategies, such as rumination. Psychological testing and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) were used explore music listening strategies in relation to mental health. Participants (n = 123) were assessed for depression, anxiety and Neuroticism, and uses of Music in Mood Regulation (MMR). Neural responses to music were measured in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) in a subset of participants (n = 56). Discharge, using music to…

Real-time micro-expression analysis by artificial vision

2022

Human-computer interaction technologies focus more and more on the human being, whether it is on his identity, or on his physical and mental state. Significant progress has been made in the last few decades. However, the study of thoughts and emotions is still an underdeveloped field, but one that has begun to gain considerable interest. In this field, the analysis of facial expressions is the preferred treatment.Unlike a macro-expression, which is visible to the eye, a micro-expression is a type of involuntary facial expression that is extremely rapid and of very low intensity. The computer vision scientific community has been studying ways to automatically recognize micro-expressions usin…

Speech Emotion Recognition method using time-stretching in the Preprocessing Phase and Artificial Neural Network Classifiers

2020

Human emotions are playing a significant role in the understanding of human behaviour. There are multiple ways of recognizing human emotions, and one of them is through human speech. This paper aims to present an approach for designing a Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) system for an industrial training station. While assembling a product, the end user emotions can be monitored and used as a parameter for adapting the training station. The proposed method is using a phase vocoder for time-stretching and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for classification of five typical different emotions. As input for the ANN classifier, features like Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs), short-te…

How Efficient Are Emotional Intelligence Trainings: A Meta-Analysis

2017

This multilevel meta-analysis examines whether emotional intelligence (EI) can be enhanced through training and identifies training effects’ determinants. We identified 24 studies containing 28 samples aiming at increasing individual-level EI among healthy adults. The results revealed a significant moderate standardized mean change between pre- and post-measurement for the main effect of EI training, and a stable pre- to follow-up effect. Additionally, the type of EI model, dimensions of the four branch model, length, and type of publication turned out to be significant moderators. The results suggest that EI trainings should be considered effective interventions.

Direct intervention through biofeedback, to change disheartening conducts in a soccer goalkeeper

2017

2020

Objective: to design a psychological intervention protocol for the accompaniment of pain and emotions in the grieving process based on attention and compassion. Method: mourners over 18 years of age, who have lost their family member at least 6 months ago, who are in phase 2 or 3 of the grieving process and who have no previous mental health problems, will be included. They will be evaluated after signing the informed consent, by means of: the Mindfulness Questionnaire, the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire, the Vitality Questionnaire, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Positive and Negative Affect Scale and the Complicated Grief Inventory. Descriptive statistics, Cohen’s t-test f…

Music and Action

2013

Music performance includes planning, initiation, execution, monitoring, and correction of actions. This makes music performance a valuable tool for the study of human action and its neural correlates. This chapter reports action-related processes evoked by the perception of actions, and processes of error correction during music performance. Neuroscientific studies showed that, during the perception of action, neural systems are active that are also active during the performance of such actions. This supports the "common coding principle" stating that the late stages of perception and the early stages of action share a common representational format (such as the same neural code). Studies o…

Electrophysiological Correlates of Aesthetic Music Processing

2009

We analyzed the processes of making aesthetic judgments of music, focusing on the differences between music experts and laypersons. Sixteen students of musicology and 16 control subjects (also students) judged the aesthetic value as well as the harmonic correctness of chord sequences. Event-related potential (ERP) data indicate differences between experts and laypersons in making aesthetic judgments at three different processing stages. Additionally, effects of expertise on ERP components that have previously been proven to be sensitive to musical training were replicated. The study thus provides insights into the effects of musical expertise on neural correlates of aesthetic music processi…

Neuropsychological Profile, Emotional/Behavioral Problems, and Parental Stress in Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders

2021

Background: The aim of our study was to trace a specific neuropsychological profile, to investigate emotional-behavioral problems and parental stress in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1/High functioning (ASD-HF), Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) disorders and to highlight similarities and differences among the three groups. Methods: We retrospectively collected the data from a total of 62 subjects with ASD-HF (n = 19) ADHD (n = 21), SLD (n = 22) and 20 typical development. All the participants underwent neuropsychological standardized test for the evaluation of cognitive profile (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Four…

Efectos de la inteligencia emocional sobre la intención y la autoeficacia emprendedora

2014

Past studies associated emotional intelligence with positive workplace outcomes, such as job performance and job satisfaction. However, to date, the relationship between emotional intelligence and individual differences in entrepreneurship has been scarcely examined. In this study, the contribution of emotional intelligence dimensions to entrepreneurial potential is explored, controlling for the influence of personality traits and demographic variables. Using a sample of 394 participants, it has been tested, by means of multiple hierarchical regression analyses, the mediating role of entrepreneurial self-efficacy in the relationship between emotional intelligence dimensions and the intentio…
