National context and teacher characteristics : Exploring the critical non-cognitive attributes of novice teachers in four countries

The purpose of this article was to examine what education professionals in four countries (England, Finland, Malawi, and Oman) deemed as the critical (i.e., most important for effective teaching) non-cognitive attributes of novice teachers. Results from an iterative comparative case study showed that participants consistently judged certain attributes of novice teachers as critical, i.e., empathy, organization, and resilience. When empathy matters: the role of sex and empathy in close friendships

Based on prior theory and research (Ciarrochi & Heaven, 2009; Eagly & Wood, 1999), we hypothesized that the link between empathy and friendship would be moderated by sex: Girls will nominate empathic boys as friends, whereas boys will not tend to nominate empathic girls. We collected measures of empathy, friendship social support, and close friendship nominations in grade 10 across 1,970 students in 16 schools (Mage = 15.70, SD = .44; males = 993, females = 977). Brain and behavioral alterations in subjects with social anxiety dominated by empathic embarrassment

Significance People are increasingly affected by social anxiety that includes emotional hypersensitivity and inaccurate interpretation of social encounters, and varies markedly in its subjective manifestations. We searched for insights into the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms of Taijin-kyofusho (TKS), a specific subtype of social-anxiety disorder common in East Asia and dominated by empathic or other-oriented embarrassment. Mente, linguaggio e razionalità. Il naturalismo di W.V. Quine ed il dibattito contemporaneo.

Una lettura non riduzionista della filosofia della mente di W. V Quine, offre la chiave per apprezzare alcune fondamentali curvature teoriche del suo naturalismo epistemologico. Permette di evidenziare una concezione dell'osservazione quale cognitivamente permeata che non implichi forme radicali di relativismo conoscitivo e di rendere perspicua la rilevanza delle aperture sul tema dell'empatia nella comprensione dell'altro. Ne emerge, in dialogo con voci autorevoli del dibattito contemporaneo, un'interpretazione che si discosta da alcuni stereotipi storiografici consolidati e tratteggia i contorni di una peculiare concezione naturalistica della razionalità.

La pedagogia è una scienza pratica. Lo abbiamo affermato più volte nel corso di queste Lezioni. In particolare, la pedagogia fondamen-tale è costituita da diversi momenti di progressivo approfondimento il cui termine ultimo è un ritorno alla concretezza dei mondi della vita dell’educare, da cui la riflessione aveva preso le mosse. Ne abbiamo parlato come di ritorno prassico-poetico all’esperienza: una considerazione del “come” dell’educare, necessariamente generata dalla riflessione sul “che cos’è” – ovvero sul senso – dell’educare. Infatti, nella pedagogia fondamentale, l’esplicitazione ermeneutica rende concreta l’analisi fenomenologica, storicizzandola e personalizzandola sempre meglio.

Efeito dos aspectos trabalhistas na comunicação, inteligência emocional e empatia em enfermagem

Objetivo: determinar o impacto do tipo de contrato e do tempo de serviço prestado da equipe de enfermagem nas suas atitudes em relação à comunicação, inteligência emocional e empatia. Métodos: os instrumentos que avaliam as atitudes em relação à comunicação, empatia e inteligência emocional. A amostra do estudo consistiu de 450 enfermeiras de 7 hospitais. Para avaliar o efeito das variáveis estudadas, foram realizados ANOVA unilateral, correlações de Pearson e modelos de regressão linear hierárquica múltipla, de acordo com o tipo de contrato.
