This paper explores the transformative teaching and learning experiences that arose throughout the duration of the progam for the lecturers and students. El presente trabajo presenta el panorama socioeconómico de la región senegalesa de Ziguinchor y aborda los retos de empoderamiento de las mujeres y la reducción de la pobreza a través de la concesión de microcréditos. Para ello se han realizado entrevistas en profundidad a mujeres de escasos recursos económicos beneficiarias de un programa nacional de microcrédito. El trabajo se apoya también en diversos estudios e investigaciones que tratan la cuestión. This study explores mothers’ experiences of their children’s custody. The empirical data consists of twelve interviews with mothers with a child custody experience. Seven interviews were conducted twice, in years 2004 and 2008. The purpose of the dissertation is three-fold: 1) to clarify the construction of motherhood before and after the custody; 2) to define what kind of support the mothers received after the children had been placed outside home; and 3) to identify promotive and hindering factors for the empowerment of these mothers. This study investigates sociability in the context of immersive Virtual Reality (VR). A Design Science Research process was applied, and three iterative development versions of a VR application were studied. Sociability around the technology was investigated with two theoretical perspectives: social presence and social interactions. Empowerment comes at a time when global competition and change require people to take initiative and be innovative. Based on the active, persistent, and change-oriented behaviors associated with psychological empowerment, the chapter states that empowerment can contribute to entrepreneurship.
