The associations between adolescents’ sports club participation and dietary habits

2021

For adolescent athletes, data on nutrition behaviours are limited. The present study aimed to evaluate the dietary habits of adolescent sports club participants (SPs) compared with those of non‐participants (NPs). The cross‐sectional study of 1917 adolescents aged 14–16 was based on data from the Finnish Health Promoting Sports Club (FHPSC) study. The health behaviour surveys were conducted among SPs (n=1093) and NPs (n=824). Logistic regression was used to test statistical significance of the differences in dietary habits between SPs and NPs. SPs were more likely than NPs to eat breakfast on weekends [89% vs. 79%, odds ratio (OR) 1.46, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.07–2.01] and to report …

Beliefs and Experiences of Individuals Following a Zero-Carb Diet

2021

The adoption of carbohydrate-restrictive diets to improve health is increasing in popularity, but there is a dearth of research on individuals who choose to severely restrict or entirely exclude carbohydrates. The present study investigated the beliefs and experiences of individuals following a diet that severely limits, or entirely excludes, dietary carbohydrates, colloquially known as a ‘zero-carb’ diet, for at least 6 months. Zero-carb dieters (n = 170) recruited via a social networking site completed an online qualitative survey prompting them to discuss their motives, rationale, and experiences of following a low-carb diet. Transcripts of participants’ responses were …

Mathematical modeling of fetal limb growth

1989

Using ultrasound measurements of the femur, tibia, humerus, radius (N = 515), and fibula and ulna (N = 385) from normal fetuses between 12 and 40 completed weeks of gestation, growth models were determined for each bone by computer analysis. On the basis of residual analysis, growth of fetal limb bones could best be expressed as a function of tangens hyperbolicus. Growth profiles and growth data are shown with 5th, 10th, 50th, 90th, and 95th percentiles. These results are compared with previous investigations of limb bone measurements.

Entrepreneurial choices depend on trust : Some global evidence

2022

Interpersonal trust and people’s trust in institutions are important components of social capital, which has been shown to have not only innate social value but also diverse direct and indirect positive social and economic impacts. Using data for an economically and globally diverse group of countries, we examine empirically how changes in interpersonal trust and trust in institutions affect entrepreneurship over time. Our findings suggest that (1) enhancing either type of trust leads to more entrepreneurial activity and (2) an increase in interpersonal trust causes a structural change in the composition of the TEA-type entrepreneurship. Increased trust reduces the share of relatively lower…

Phosphonylation Controls the Protein Corona of Multifunctional Polyglycerol-Modified Nanocarriers.

2018

Nanocarriers are a platform for modern drug delivery. In contact with blood, proteins adsorb to nanocarriers, altering their behavior in vivo. To reduce unspecific protein adsorption and unspecific cellular uptake, nanocarriers are modified with hydrophilic polymers like poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). However, with PEG the attachment of further functional structures such as targeting units is limited. A method to introduce multifunctionality via polyglycerol (PG) while maintaining the hydrophilicity of PEG is introduced. Different amounts of negatively charged phosphonate groups (up to 29 mol%) are attached to the multifunctional PGs (Mn 2-4 kg mol-1 , Ð < 1.36) by post-modification. PGs are …

12-month follow-up analysis of a multicenter, randomized, prospective trial in de novo liver transplant recipients (LIS2T) comparing cyclosporine mic…

2006

The LIS2T study was an open-label, multicenter study in which recipients of a primary liver transplant were randomized to cyclosporine microemulsion (CsA-ME) (Neoral) (n = 250) (monitoring of blood concentration at 2 hours postdose) C2 or tacrolimus (n = 245) (monitoring of trough drug blood level [predose]) C0 to compare efficacy and safety at 3 and 6 months and to evaluate patient status at 12 months. All patients received steroids with or without azathioprine. At 12 months, 85% of CsA-ME patients and 86% of tacrolimus patients survived with a functioning graft (P not significant). Efficacy was similar in deceased- and living-donor recipients. Significantly fewer hepatitis C–positive pati…

Ergebnisse nach Implantation von zementfreien metallspongiösen Hüftprothesen

1994

Tarkastelun kohteena on B2C-verkkokaupankäynti (Business to Consumer). Kaupankäynnin yleistyminen verkossa luo jatkuvasti kovempaa kilpailua kauppiaiden välille. Tästä syystä uusien asiakkaiden houkuttelu ja jo olemassa olevien sitouttaminen vaatii verkkokaupalta enemmän kuin ainoastaan jokaiselta sivustolta löytyvät perustoiminnallisuudet, jotta verkkok…
