Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2018 This thesis serves as a base for later research on substituting fossil coal and coke with biochar in the Norwegian metallurgical industry. Because Norwegian electricity production is almost entirely based on carbon dioxide - neutral hydropower, the nation’s main pollutant is fossil coal. Biochar serves as an alternative to coal but can currently only partially satisfy the quality requirements for use in top-loaded smelting facilities. Masteroppgave fornybar energi ENE500 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 The report deals with fault detection and diagnosis of roller element bearings. Vibration and shaft position sensor data combined with three algorithms are tested to determine which combination may detect bearing faults early and reliably. Experimental data from an accelerated life-time test is used to verify the performance. Results show that the vibration signal combined with a fast spectral correlation algorithm yields the most reliable diagnosis.

Master's thesis Renewable Energy ENE500 - University of Agder 2018 In this thesis, two different methods were used attempting to estimate heat loss from metal holding tanks and chutes at Chassix Norway. The first method uses thermal resistance to calculate the total heat loss without any measurements, while the second calculates the conductive, convective and radiative heat loss separately using surface temperature measurements. Resulting heat loss for one year was 605.65 MWh without measurements and 827.64 MWh after surface temperature measurements.
