An ever-increasing number of drugs can reproduce variegated patterns of naturally occurring interstitial lung disease (ILD), including most forms of interstitial pneumonias, alveolar involvement and, rarely, vasculitis. Drugs in one therapeutic class may collectively produce the same pattern of involvement. A few drugs can produce more than one pattern of ILD. Anti-interleukin-5 therapy (mepolizumab) in life-threatening asthma attack: A case-based discussion

We report about a case of a compassionate off-label use of the anti-interleukin-5-agent mepolizumab in a ventilated patient with life-threatening asthma attack in eosinophilic asthma. The patient suffered from severe eosinophilic asthma and was transmitted to our hospital with an asthma attack and a life-threatening respiratory state under ventilation. Since high dose steroids had not yielded a sufficient respiratory improvement mepolizumab was administered subcutaneously. Data in asthmatic children suggest that low vitamin D levels are associated with poor asthma control, reduced lung function, and increased medication intake. To investigate the role of vitamin D insufficiency in adult asthmatics 25-hydroxyvitamin D was measured in 280 adult patients with asthma (mean±SEM: 45.0±0.8 yrs., 40% male, FEV1 74.9±1.4%) and correlated with clinical parameters of asthma control. Children infection by Cryptosporidium sp. have been communicated since 1976 usually associated to acute diarrohoeal disease. This protozoa has been isolated recently in SIDA patients with serious illness. Three new cases, the first of spanish pediatric literature, are described in this paper. Children were males; two of them twins. Age ranged 24 to 27 m. All lived in Valencia, and went to infant's school with high stand of living and domestic animal relationship.
