Determination of queuosine derivatives by reverse-phase liquid chromatography for the hypomodification study of Q-bearing tRNAs from various mammal l…

2004

Three queuosine derivatives (Q-derivatives) have been found at position 34 of four mammalian so-called Q-tRNAs: queuosine (Q) in tRNA(Asn) and tRNA(His), mannosyl-queuosine (manQ) in tRNA(Asp), and galactosyl-queuosine (galQ) in tRNA(Tyr). An analytical procedure based on the combined means of purified tRNA isolation from liver cells and ribonucleoside analysis by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography coupled with real-time UV-spectrometry (RPLC-UV) was developed for the quantitative analysis of the three Q-derivatives present in total tRNA from liver tissues and liver cell cultures. Using this analytical procedure, the rates of Q-tRNA modification were studied in total tRNAs…

Evaluation of enantioselective binding of propanocaine to human serum albumin by ultrafiltration and electrokinetic chromatography under intermediate…

2011

Abstract Stereoselectivity in protein binding can have a significant effect on the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of chiral drugs. In this paper, the enantioselective binding of propanocaine (PRO) enantiomers to human serum albumin (HSA), the most relevant plasmatic protein in view of stereoselectivity, has been evaluated by incubation and ultrafiltration of racemic PRO–HSA mixtures and chiral analysis of the bound and unbound fractions by electrokinetic chromatography using HSA as chiral selector. Experimental conditions for the separation of PRO enantiomers using HSA as chiral selector and electrokinetic chromatography have been optimised. Affinity constants and protein bi…

Epithelial NEMO links innate immunity to chronic intestinal inflammation

2007

Deregulation of intestinal immune responses seems to have a principal function in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease(1-4). The gut epithelium is critically involved in the maintenance of intestinal immune homeostasis-acting as a physical barrier separating luminal bacteria and immune cells, and also expressing antimicrobial peptides(3,5,6). However, the molecular mechanisms that control this function of gut epithelial cells are poorly understood. Here we show that the transcription factor NF kappa B, a master regulator of pro-inflammatory responses(7,8), functions in gut epithelial cells to control epithelial integrity and the interaction between the mucosal immune system and gu…

Synthesis of the aggregation pheromone of the Colorado potato beetle from its degradation product

2015

Incubation of the Colorado potato beetle aggregation pheromone, (S)-1,3-dihydroxy-3,7-dimethyl-6-octen-2-one, with antennal or leg extracts from this beetle gave 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one as the major product. This ketone was used as a substrate in a stereoselective synthesis of the pheromone. It was attached to the butanediacetal of glycolic acid with good stereoselectivity and the desired isomer was further enriched by purification of the product of this reaction on silica gel.

Synergistic effect of recombinant CD4-immunoglobulin in combination with azidothymidine, dideoxyinosine and 0.5 beta-monoclonal antibody on human imm…

1994

Data are presented which indicate that combinations of rCD4 immunoglobulin with azidothymidine, dideoxyinosine or 0.5 beta mouse monoclonal antibodies directed against the V3 region of HIV-1, were more effective in treatment of acute HIV infection in vitro than each compound alone. It is suggested that combination therapy with these compounds is more beneficial in treatment of HIV-infected patients than monotherapy, especially with respect to a reduction of the known side effects and the formation of resistant HIV strains after treatment with nucleoside analogues.

The healing from another paradigm: neoshamanisms and its global emergency in the Spanish case

2021

Stereopsis assessment at multiple distances with an iPad application

2017

[EN] We present a new application for iPad for screening stereopsis at multiple distances that allows testing up to ten levels of stereoacuity at each distance. Our approach is based on a random dot stereogram viewable with anaglyph spectacles. Sixty-five subjects with no ocular diseases, wearing their habitual correction were measured at 3 m and 0.5 m. Results were compared with a standard stereoscopic test (TNO). We found not statistically significant differences between both tests, but our method achieved higher reproducibility. Applications in visual screening programs and to design and use of 3D displays, are suggested. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
