Future Perspectives in NNRTI-Based Therapy: Bases for Understanding Their Toxicity
2011
Continuous administration of the drugs included under the term Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) has turned AIDS into a chronic disease, at least in developed countries (Panos et al., 2008). The initial development of these drugs was particularly rapid and focused on clinical efficacy before all other considerations. However, as the disease has come under control, there has been growing emphasis on the long-term adverse effects associated with this therapy. The first drug for the treatment of HIV infection, zidovudine (AZT), was approved in 1987. The number of other antiretroviral drugs already approved for use or under development continues to grow, and the primary aim of resear…
New therapeutic strategies for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease
2008
Although the precise etiology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) still remains unclear, considerable progress has been made in the identification of cytokine-mediated signaling pathways involved in the inflammatory process. Recent data have clearly shown that these pathways induce augmented intestinal T-cell activation and thus resistance to apoptosis, which is a central process in disease pathogenesis, as it impairs mucosal homeostasis. Therefore, novel therapeutic strategies aim at restoring activated effector T-cell susceptibility to apoptosis in the gut, based on a pathophysiological rationale. This development is best exemplified by the emergence of agents that target the TNF pathway,…

DFT exploration of [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of 1H-phosphorinium-3-olate and 1-methylphosphorinium-3-olate with methyl methacrylate
2018
A Molecular Electron Density Theory (MEDT) study of the regio- and stereoselectivity of the [3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) reaction of 1H-phosphorinium-3-olate and 1-methylphosphorinium-3-olate with methyl methacrylate was carried out using the B3LYP/6-31G(d) method. In order to test the method dependence for the most favorable reaction path leading to the 1H-substituted 6-exo cycloadduct (CA) various functionals using higher basis sets were taken into consideration in the gas phase. An analysis of the energetic parameters indicates that the reaction path leading to 6-exo CA are kinetically as well as thermodynamically favored in the gas phase, THF and ethanol. The calculated energetic parame…
Partial Reduction and Selective Transfer of Hydrogen Chloride on Catalytic Gold Nanoparticles
2017
© 2017 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim HCl in solution accepts electron density from Au NPs and partially reduces at room temperature, as occurs with other simple diatomic molecules, such as O2 and H2. The activation can be run catalytically in the presence of alkynes to give exclusively E-vinyl chlorides, after the regio- and stereoselective transfer of HCl. Based also on this method, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) can be produced in a milder and greener way than current industrial processes.
Asymmetric Homoaldol Reactions with Cyclohex-2-enylN,N-Diisopropylcarbamate: Kinetic Resolution, Elucidation of the Stereochemical Course and Applica…
2007
Enantio-enriched cyclohex-2-enyl N,N-diisopropylcarbamate (5) is stereospecifically deprotonated by sec-butyllithium/(–)-sparteine (9) to form the configurationally stable lithium complex 7·9. A kinetic resolution of rac-5 by n-butyllithium/(–)-sparteine (9) yielded (R)-5 with up to 99 % ee. Electrophilic substitution with tin electrophiles proceeds in a anti-SE′ fashion as shown by chemical correlations. The synthesized allylstannanes 10 undergo a highly stereospecific TiCl4-mediated homoaldol reaction with various aldehydes, yielding syn-configured homoaldol products 12. These were transferred into all-cis-configured hexahydroisobenzofuran-4(1H)-ones 22 by BF3·OEt2-mediated reactions with…
Sliding-end-labelling
1986
Abstract A method, termed ‘sliding-end-labelling’, has been devised to avoid a frequent artifact in nucleosome positioning by indirect end labelling, namely the appearing of DNA fragments originated by two nuclease cuts, one of them lying within the region covered by the probe. The method is applied to the nucleosome positioning in the yeast SUC2 gene for invertase.
Cycloaddition von benzothiet an oxime, oximether und oximester
1991
Benzothiete 1 generates by thermal ring opening an 8π electron system 2 which undergoes [8π + 2π] cycloaddition reactions with the oxime systems 3a-g. In accordance with the FMO theory the 1,3-thiazine derivatives 4a-g are formed in a regiospecific and 4f additionally in a stereospecific manner. The O-acylated adducts 4h-j enter the same cycloaddition; however, an elimination reaction 4 5, 6 can provoke the addition of a second benzothiete, yielding the tetracyclic compounds 7j, and 8i,j.
Constitutive Promoter Occupancy by the MBF-1 Activator and Chromatin Modification of the Developmental Regulated Sea Urchin α-H2A Histone Gene
2007
The tandemly repeated sea urchin alpha-histone genes are developmentally regulated. These genes are transcribed up to the early blastula stage and permanently silenced as the embryos approach gastrulation. As previously described, expression of the alpha-H2A gene depends on the binding of the MBF-1 activator to the 5' enhancer, while down-regulation relies on the functional interaction between the 3' sns 5 insulator and the GA repeats located upstream of the enhancer. As persistent MBF-1 binding and enhancer activity are detected in gastrula embryos, we have studied the molecular mechanisms that prevent the bound MBF-1 from trans-activating the H2A promoter at this stage of development. Her…
Morphological characterization of the blood cells in the endangered Sicilian endemic pond turtle,Emys trinacris(Testudines: Emydidae)
2014
AbstractIn this study, measurements of morphological parameters, sizes and frequencies of peripheral blood cells (erythrocytes, leukocytes, thrombocytes) on blood smear preparation devices stained with May-Grunwald stain were evaluated for both sexes in 20 Emys trinacris (Testudines: Emydidae) specimens. Erythrocytes were higher in male than in female specimens. The leukocyte of E. trinacris contains eosinophil, basophil, monocyte, heterophil and lymphocyte. The eosinophil was higher in males than in females whereas lymphocytes were higher in females than in males. The erythrocyte morphological parameters (EL [erythrocyte length], EW [erythrocyte width], L/W [length/width], ES [erythrocyte …
