Positive Iron Balance in Chronic Kidney Disease: How Much is Too Much and How to Tell?

<b><i>Background:</i></b> Regulation of body iron occurs at cellular, tissue, and systemic levels. In healthy individuals, iron absorption and losses are minimal, creating a virtually closed system. In the setting of chronic kidney disease and hemodialysis (HD), increased iron losses, reduced iron absorption, and limited iron availability lead to iron deficiency. Valsts aizsardzības mācības saturs vidējā izglītībā

Latvijā tiek ieviesta vispārejā valsts aizsardzības koncepcija, kuras ietvaros vidējā izglītībā ir ieviests jauns mācību priekšmets – valsts aizsardzības mācība. Jaunais priekšmets vēl atrodas pilotrežīmā un nav pilnībā izstrādāts. Pētījuma ietvaros tika veiktas pedagoģiskās un psiholoģiskās literatūras par valsts aizsardzības mācības saturu un mērķauditoriju analīze, veikti praktiski novērojumi Rīgas skolā X un intervijas ar 2 izglītības ekspertiem. Darba rezultātā izveidoti 7 ieteikumi Jaunsardzes un informācijas centram valsts aizsardzības mācības satura pilnveidei.

Knuta Hamsuna recepcija latviešu literatūrā 20.gs.sākumā un 21.gs. sākumā

Bakalaura darbā pētīta Knuta Hamsuna popularitāte 20. gadsimta sākuma latviešu literatūrā un recepcija kritikā, kā arī apskatīta autora aktualitāte 21. gadsimtā. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot kādus poētikas veidošanas paņēmienus latviešu autori aizguvuši no Knuta Hamsuna. Ir veikts salīdzinošs pētījums, sastatot tādu latviešu autoru kā Jānis Akuraters, Gunars Janovskis un Inga Ābele darbus ar norvēģu autora daiļradi. Pētījuma rezultātā apstiprinājusies hipotēze, ka iespaids uz 20. gadsimta literatūru bijis ievērojamāks, savukārt 21. gadsimtā aktualitāte zudusi. Structural differences of prebiotic oligosaccharides influence their capability to enhance iron absorption in deficient rats

This study evaluates the influence of novel galacto-oligosaccharides derived from lactulose (GOS-Lu), kojibiose or 4′-galactosyl-kojibiose in hematological parameters of Fe homeostasis using Fe-deficient animals. Liver TfR-2, IL-6, NFκB and PPAR-γ expression (mRNA) were also determined by RT-qPCR analyses, and active hepcidin peptide production and short chain fatty acids by LC coupled to MS/MS or UV detection. Feeding animals with GOS-Lu or kojibiose together with FeCl3 increased hemoglobin (Hb) production (by 17%) and mean Hb concentration into erythrocytes relative to animals administered with FeCl3 alone (14.1% and 19.7%, respectively). En el presente artículo se expone el estado de la cuestión de la recepción del humanismo y del arte renacentista en Mallorca, a partir del cual se introducen nuevos datos documentales que permiten una mejor comprensión de la toma de conciencia de los escultores frente al modelo clásico y del nuevo papel que desempeñaron en la creación arquitectónica. In this paper, an updated explanation of the humanism and Renaissance art reception in Majorca is discussed. From this point of view, new documentary data are introduced for a better understanding about the sculptors’ awareness of the classic model and their new role in architectural creation.
Effect of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) on Hormones of Energy Balance in a TCDD-Sensitive and a TCDD-Resistant Rat Strain

One of the hallmarks of the acute toxicity of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is a drastically reduced feed intake by an unknown mechanism. To further elucidate this wasting syndrome, we followed the effects of a single large dose (100 μg/kg) of TCDD on the serum levels of several energy balance-influencing hormones, clinical chemistry variables, and hepatic aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) expression in two rat strains that differ widely in their TCDD sensitivities, for up to 10 days. La Disputa de l’ase d’Anselm —Antelm? Telm?— Turmeda compta entre els textos més singulars de la prosa quatrecentista. Aquest article tracta de les fonts dels exempla esmentats a la raó setzena de l’obra, i per als quals l’excel·lent estudi de García Sempere i Martín Pascual no havia aconseguit de trobar l’origen de totes. La veritable font principal d’aquest conjunt és la Història dels animals d’Elià —font alhora del Fisiòleg grec, i aquest del llatí—, part de la transmissió manuscrita de la qual remunta al segle XIII.
