Diagenetic stability of non-traditional stable isotope systems (Ca, Sr, Mg, Zn) in teeth – An in-vitro alteration experiment of biogenic apatite in i…

2021

Stable isotope ratios and trace element concentrations of fossil bones and teeth are important geochemical proxies for the reconstruction of diet and past environment in archaeology and palaeontology. However, since diagenesis can significantly alter primary diet-related isotope signatures and elemental compositions, it is important to understand and quantify alteration processes. Here, we present the results of in-vitro alteration experiments of dental tissues from a modern African elephant molar reacted in aqueous solutions at 30 °C and 90 °C for 4 to 63 days. Dental cubes with ≈ 3 mm edge length, comprising both enamel and dentin, were placed into 2 mL of acidic aqueous sol…

Genetic variation and evolutionary analysis ofPepino mosaic virusin Sicily: insights into the dispersion and epidemiology

2017

Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) is a highly infectious potexvirus that causes a severe disease in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) crops worldwide. In Sicily, the first outbreak was detected in a single greenhouse in 2005 and it was promptly eradicated. However, in 2008, a large number of greenhouses were simultaneously affected, and it was impossible to eradicate or control the virus. This study addressed the dispersion and the genetic diversity of PepMV isolates obtained from the outbreak in Sicily, in comparison with worldwide PepMV isolates, to gain insight into the factors determining the evolution and epidemiology of the virus. A total of 1800 samples from plants with and without symptoms we…

Declamazione e letteratura

2015

This paper is a contribution to the most recent studies about the literature practised at the declamation schools, finding out its fictional aspect. In the first part, we will consider the importance and the risks of such a fictional value. We will go through some paragraphs of Quintilian's Institutio Oratoria (2, 10 and 10, 5); in fact, in this work, the author condemns some excesses, yet he keeps on considering declamation a good practice. In the second part of the paper, a particular case study will be proposed. We will focus on the character of the stepmother, according to the excerpta of Calpurnius Flaccus. We will also analyse four excerpts (4, 12, 22, 35), in which there is always a …

High spatial resolution analysis of the iron oxidation state in silicate glasses using the electron probe

2018

The iron oxidation state in silicate melts is important for understanding their physical properties, although it is most often used to estimate the oxygen fugacity of magmatic systems. Often high spatial resolution analyses are required, yet the available techniques, such as μrXANES and μMössbauer, require synchrotron access. The flank method is an electron probe technique with the potential to measure Fe oxidation state at high spatial resolution but requires careful method development to reduce errors related to sample damage, especially for hydrous glasses. The intensity ratios derived from measurements on the flanks of FeLα and FeLβ X-rays (FeLβf/FeLαf) over a time interval (time-depend…

Chlorine as a Discriminant Element to Establish the Provenance of Central Mediterranean Obsidians

2020

Abstract Chlorine is a minor element present in obsidians in quantities greater than in average igneous rocks. The chlorine concentration in obsidians is generally low, of the order of tenths of wt %, but it exhibits an appreciable differentiation among geological sources. Despite these characteristics, chlorine has rarely been taken into consideration as a possible indicator of obsidian provenance and it does not appear in the chemical analytical tables accompanying the geochemical characterisation of obsidian samples. In this work, after an overview of chlorine geochemistry and cycle, we present thirty-one new electron microprobe (EPMA) analyses, including Cl, of geologic obsidians sample…

Pamatdatu pārvaldīšana lielapjoma datu sistēmās bāzētās Oracle Hyperion platformā

2017

CHARACTERIZATION OF A STRAIN OF PEPINO MOSAIC VIRUS FOUND IN SICILY

2006

During winter 2005, an unusual virus-like yellow leaf disorder associated to interveinal leaf yellowing and marbling on fruits, was observed in some greenhouse tomato crops in Sicily, exactly in province of Ragusa. Two leaves from 250 symptomatic tomato plants were serologically tested by DAS-ELISA technique using the sera to Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), Impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV), Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV). Of the 250 samples tested, 215 were positive to PepMV presence. This virus was mechanically transmitted to Cucumis sativus “Cubit”, Datura metel, Nicotiana benthamiana and tomato “Rio Grande”. The host range of…

Fizisko īpašību nozīme šķēpmešanas potenciālā – pamatskolas vecuma bērniem

2015

Diploma darba teorētiskā bāze balstās uz R.Jansones, A.Briede, V.Krauksts, A.Fernāte, I.Ķīsis, I.Liepiņa, I.Immeres un ci…
