The effects of electrodermal lability and stimulus intensity on skin conductance habituation: A preliminary report

A between-subjects design (N=60) was used to investigate the effects of electrodermal lability and auditory stimulus intensity on habituation of the skin conductance response (SCR). Subjects were subdivided into “labile” and “stabile” groups on the basis of frequency of nonspecific electrodermal responses during the prestimulation period. They received 20 presentations of a 1,000-Hz tone of 15, 35, 55, 75, 95, or 110 dB. Inter-individual different responses to continuous and interval training in recreational middle-aged women runners

Self-reported reasons for on-duty sleepiness among commercial airline pilots

Experimental and epidemiological research has shown that human sleepiness is determined especially by the circadian and homeostatic processes. The present field study examined which work-related factors airline pilots perceive as causing on-duty sleepiness during short-haul and long-haul flights. In addition, the association between the perceived reasons for sleepiness and actual sleepiness levels was examined, as well as the association between reporting inadequate sleep causing sleepiness and actual sleep-wake history. A 35-year effective treatment of catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia with propafenone

Key Teaching Points • Despite proven catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) with pathogen RyR2 mutation and recurrent syncope, patients could have a favorable long-term outcome over 35 years under treatment. • Propafenone could be effective for treatment of patients with CPVT. • The beneficial effect of the monotherapy with propafenone in our patient may result from the combined antiarrhythmic effect of this drug with Na+ channel blockade and beta blocker capabilities.

Multimodal surgical and medical treatment for extensive rhinocerebral mucormycosis in an elderly diabetic patient: a case report and literature review

Diabetes is a well-known risk factor for invasive mucormycosis with rhinocerebral involvement. Acute necrosis of the maxilla is seldom seen and extensive facial bone involvement is rare in patients with rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis. An aggressive surgical approach combined with antifungal therapy is usually necessary. Hallux Valgus (HV) and Swallowing Disorder (SD) are two multifactorial postural and biomechanical alterations. It is very important to look for the incidence of these two conditions in order to promote psycho-physical and postural well-being. Our study aimed to clinically assess the presence of HV and SD in a large group with different ages spans. Fours skilled professionals performed the assessment following clinical criteria. A total of 61 volunteers subjects (163.5 ± 14.1 cm; 59.7 ± 15.7 kg; 22.9 ± 13.2 yrs.) were selected for the study.
