Las familias reconstituidas. Una realidad en continuo crecimiento
2020
More and more couples who have married or formalized their union are dissolving and…
Chapter 3 patterns and thresholds of runoff generation and sediment transport on some Mediterranean hillslopes
2005
Abstract Runoff and sediment transport data obtained from hillslopes in two limestone areas in southeast Spain are analysed in order to define spatial and temporal thresholds for sediment movement at the patch scale under Mediterranean semiarid and subhumid climatological conditions. The data discussed in this paper include a 7-year series of runoff and sediment collection in open Gerlach plots. The 136 events are analysed in relation to characteristics of rainfall, soil and soil surface components. In both cases slopes behave as a patchwork of runoff and runon areas and the size of the runoff or runon patches being dependent on the climatological conditions. These control the hydrological …
Adulticidal activity of essential oils of Mentha piperita L., Cupressus sempervirens L., and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. against the tomato leafminer…
2020
The tomato miner Tuta absoluta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a Neotropical species, which cause serious damages to tomato both in open fields and under greenhouses. Chemical control using synthetic insecticides was the primary method of control of this pest, but it has showed negative implications due to high costs, and risks for human health and environment. Therefore safer alternatives are required to control of tomato leafminer as the use of natural insecticides. In this work we investigated the insecticidal activity of essential oils (EOs) of peppermint, Mentha piperita L., cypress, Cupressus sempervirens L., and eucalyptus, Eucalyptus globulus Labill., used for the first time a…
Low Prevalence of Lactase Persistence in Bronze Age Europe Indicates Ongoing Strong Selection over the Last 3,000 Years
2020
Lactase persistence (LP), the continued expression of lactase into adulthood, is the most strongly selected single gene trait over the last 10,000 years inmultiple human populations. It has been posited that the primary allele causing LP among Eurasians, rs4988235-A [1], only rose to appreciable frequencies during the Bronze and Iron Ages [2, 3], long after humans started consuming milk from domesticated animals. This rapid rise has been attributed to an influx of people from the Pontic-Caspian steppe that began around 5,000 years ago [4, 5]. We investigate the spatiotemporal spread of LP through an analysis of 14 warriors from the Tollense Bronze Age battlefield in northern Germany ( 3,20…
2020
The newly retrieved correspondence between Pirandello and Schirò helps us reconstruct the relationship between the two young writers, both protagonists of a time rich in events. Of no less importance were their passionate love stories with two young women by the same name: Lina Pirandello. The first Lina was the cousin of the writer whereas the other the sister of the future playwright. The background was that of the Palermo of the liberty style at the end of the 19th century while the cultural context was dominated by the great and renowned Sicilian figures of the time. In the second part of the essay, the author considers the literary activity shared by the two young men. As to the early …
L’amore condiviso, l’Arte.
2021
The retrived epistolary of Pirandello and Schirò helps reconstruct the relationship between the two young writers, both protagonists of different and private love affairs. The backdrop against which their lives unfolded were the Classical College Vittorio Emanuele where they met; the Palermo of the Liberty style of the end of the 19th century and the cultural context dominated by reknowned and famous Sicilian intellectuals such as their professors Mario Villareale and Pier Giacinto Giozza, or the poets Mario Rapisardi and Eliodoro Lombardi, and other outstanding figures such as Giuseppe Pipitone Federico, Giuseppe Pitrè and Salvatore Salomone-Marino. This third part of the essay considers t…

A tolerant behavior in salt-sensitive tomato plants can be mimicked by chemical stimuli
2007
Lycopersicon esculentum plants exhibit increased salt stress tolerance following treat‑ ment with adipic acid monoethylester and 1,3‑diaminepropane (DAAME), known as an inducer of resistance against biotic stress in tomato and pepper. For an efficient water and nutrient uptake, plants should adapt their water potential to compensate a decrease in water soil potential produced by salt stress. DAAME‑treated plants showed a faster and stronger water potential reduction and an enhanced proline accumulation. Salinity‑induced oxidative stress was also ameliorated by DAAME treatments. Oxidative membrane damage and ethylene emission were both reduced in DAAME‑treated plants. This effect is probably…
