Feeding an increasing world population with a sustainable agriculture is one of the greatest challenges of this century. The reduction of the reliance on pesticides is a critical aspect in this quest for sustainability. Whether cropping systems with reduced reliance on pesticides would be able to reconcile the various components of sustainability remains however a matter of debate. This paper analyses the relations between thematization of the territory and symbolic elaboration of identity in Carme Riera’s narrative: in two inicial short story collections, Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora and Jo pos per testimoni les gavines,and in two novels: Dins el darrer blau and La meitat de l’ànima. The aim of the research is to show that, according to the works, the identity value of Mallorca arises either from a sentimental perspective, or in terms of moral or in terms of culturaltransmission, in literary key.

Marsilio Ficino’s relationship to the Hermetic literary tradition has long been a controversial issue in academic discussion. Although Ficino is commonly known as a translator and keen reader of the philosophical Hermetica, his allegiances to the Hermetic ideas have been recognized only in his theory of magic (only to be denied later), while in other cases, in general, scholars tend to deny the impact of Hermetic writings instead of accepting it.
