Lexical Mixing in a Conversation between Old Helsinki Slang Speakers

In this article, a conversation between Old Helsinki Slang (OHS) speakers recorded in 1965 is examined. A notable feature of OHS is the heavy use of Swedish-based or otherwise un-Finnish words although it mostly follows the grammar of colloquial Finnish. e sample that is analyzed consists of free speech, and it lasts 65 minutes. If uncertain items are taken into account, then the proportion of borrowed lexical items in the data is 29–32%. Function and content words in OHS di er markedly in their etymological origin as the function words are overwhelmingly Finnish. Research literature clustering using diffusion maps

We apply the knowledge discovery process to the mapping of current topics in a particular field of science. We are interested in how articles form clusters and what are the contents of the found clusters. A framework involving web scraping, keyword extraction, dimensionality reduction and clustering using the diffusion map algorithm is presented. We use publicly available information about articles in high-impact journals. The method should be of use to practitioners or scientists who want to overview recent research in a field of science. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, onko normaalien ja RamonEdge® -terien ja teroituksen välillä eroa luistelun potkun kestossa, polvikulmassa, alaraajojen lihasaktiivisuuksissa sekä kiihtyvyydessä submaksimaalisen eteenpäinluistelun aikana. Tutkimukseen osallistui 11 aktiivisesti harjoittelevaa miesjääkiekkoilijaa kaikilta Suomen korkeimmilta aikuisten sarjatasoilta (II-divisioona, Suomi-Sarja, Mestis ja SM-liiga; ikä 24,0 ± 1,7 vuotta, pituus 178,5 ± 4,7 cm, paino 78,8 ± 7,0 kg, painoindeksi 24,6 ± 1,3 kg/m2). This paper focuses on a Finnish women’s paramilitary organization called ‘Lotta Svärd’ in a wartime context, from 1939 to 1944. During the Second World War, thousands of members of the organization served as volunteers with the Finnish Army. The primary data for this study consist of the organization’s magazine, Lotta Svärd, as well as archival documents stored in the Finnish War Document Archives. This study seeks to explore what kind of war heroine was constructed in Lotta Svärd. We found four representations of the heroine: Mother, Soldier, Body and Holy Sacrifice. Sanaston oppiminen on keskeisimpiä edellytyksiä vieraan kielen oppimiselle, jonka vuoksi vieraiden kielten oppikirjojen tulisi panostaa erityisesti tapoihin, joilla uutta sanastoa opetetaan oppijoille.
