FORMULATION OF LIME MORTARS BASED ON NATURAL FIBERS AND WASTE MATERIALS FOR MORE SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS
2019
Nowadays sustainability is one of the main concept in building construction, both considering energy saving buildings and life cycle assessment of building materials. According to these considerations, in this work the use of recycled and waste materials to produce a binder and the use of a natural fiber as reinforcement are investigated to obtain a sustainable mortar. Particularly, lime is obtained by kilning waste marble slurry from marbles quarries in western Sicily; pozzolanic aggregate is obtained by grinding glass powder from urban waste collection; natural fibers come from a widespread grass: Ampelodesmos Mauritanicus also known as diss. Scanning electron microscopy and helium picnom…
Contactus adherens, a special type of plaque-bearing adhering junction containing M-cadherin, in the granule cell layer of the cerebellar glomerulus.
1995
In the glomeruli of the granule cell layer of mammalian cerebellum, neuronal extensions are interconnected by numerous small, nearly isodiametric (diameters up to 0.1 micron), junctions previously classified as puncta adherentia related to the vinculin-containing, actin microfilament-anchoring junctions of the zonula adherens of epithelial and certain other cells. Using immunofluorescence and immunoelectron microscopy, we have found, however, that these junctions are negative for E- and VE-cadherin, for desmosomal cadherins, and also for vinculin, alpha-actinin, and desmoplakin, but they do contain, in addition to the protein plakoglobin common to all forms of adhering junctions, the plaque…
Desmosomes: interconnected calcium-dependent structures of remarkable stability with significant integral membrane protein turnover
2002
Desmosomes are prominent cell adhesion structures that are major stabilizing elements, together with the attached cytoskeletal intermediate filament network, of the cytokeratin type in epithelial tissues. To examine desmosome dynamics in tightly coupled cells and in situations of decreased adhesion, fluorescent desmosomal cadherin desmocollin 2a (Dsc2a) chimeras were stably expressed in human hepatocellular carcinoma-derived PLC cells (clone PDc-13) and in Madin-Darby canine kidney cells (clone MDc-2) for the continuous monitoring of desmosomes in living cells. The hybrid polypeptides integrated specifically and without disturbance into normal-appearing desmosomes that occurred in associati…
Vēstule starp faktu un fikcionalitāti Margas Berkas "Sommer in Lesmona"
2018
Volatile components from aerial parts of Centaurea gracilenta and C. ovina ssp. besserana growing wild in Bulgaria
2011
The essential oils of Centaurea gracilenta Velen. (CG) and C. ovina Pall. ex Willd. ssp. besserana (DC.) Dostál (COB) growing wild in Bulgaria, were studied by GC and GC-MS. Forty-five compounds for CG, representing the 90.1% of the oil, and 68 compounds for COB, representing the 91.9% of the oil, were identified. The oils were rich in sesquiterpenoids (33.4% for CG and 27.3% for COB), hydrocarbons (28.3% for CG and 10.7% for COB) and carbonylic compounds (12.7% for CG and 13.1% for COB). Fatty acids were abundant only for COB (31.3%). beta-Eudesmol (12.8%), nonacosane (11.8%) and p-vinyl guiacol (7.5%) were recognized as the main constituents for CG, while hexadecanoic acid (21.4%), spathu…
Volatile components of Centaurea calcitrapa L. and Centaurea sphaerocephala L. ssp. sphaerocephala, two Asteraceae growing wild in Sicily
2006
The volatile components of the flowerheads of Centaurea calcitrapa L. (C.c.) and Centaurea sphaerocephala L. ssp. sphaerocephala (C.s.) were obtained by hydrodistillation and identified by GC and GC–MS. Altogether 96 components were identified, 66 in C. calcitrapa and 68 in C. spaerocephala, mostly fatty acids (32.8%, C.c. and 44.2%, C.s.) and hydrocarbons (32.3%, C.c. and 15.9%, C.s.). 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (15.8%, C.c.) and hexadecanoic acid (30.7%, C.s.) were the most abundant fatty acids; tricosane (8.0%, C.c.) and heptacosane (4.9%, C.s.) were the main hydrocarbons. Sesquiterpenes were also present as hydrocarbons (10.1% for 14 components in C.c. and 9.2% for 13 components in C.s.)…
Essential oil from the aerial parts of Centaurea cuneifolia Sibth. & Sm. and C. euxina Velen., two species growing wild in Bulgaria
2009
Abstract The volatile constituents of the aerial parts of Centaurea cuneifolia Sibth. & Sm. and Centaurea euxina Velen. from Bulgaria were extracted by hydrodistillation and were analyzed. The main components in C. cuneifolia were β-eudesmol (26.5%) and hexadecanoic acid (17.6%). The main components in C. euxina were hexadecanoic acid (20.3%), spathulenol (10.8%) and caryophyllene oxide (6.2%). The chemotaxonomic significances with respect to other previously studied species of the same sections ( Achrolopus and Phalolepis , respectively) are discussed.
A systematic overview of the first pasteurised VWF/FVIII medicinal product, Haemate P/Humate -P: history and clinical performance
2008
Patients with von Willebrand disease (VWD) and haemophilia A (HA) lack, to varying degrees, the von Willebrand factor (VWF) and coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) that are critical for normal haemostasis. These conditions in turn make patients prone to uncontrolled bleeding. Historically, patients with severe forms of VWD or HA were crippled before adulthood and their life expectancy was significantly reduced. Over the past decades, specific coagulation factor replacement therapies including Haemate P, have been developed to help patients achieve and maintain normal haemostasis. Haemate P is a human, plasma-derived VWF/FVIII medicinal product, which was first licensed in Germany in 1981 for th…
ABDOMINAL DESMOID TUMORS: A CASE REPORT ANATOMICAL ASPECT
2008
Desmoid tumors are rare neoplasms of the soft tissues which develop from fibrous tissues and are histologically characterized by fibroblastic proliferation. They tend to recur at the local site of a previous condition and they do not metastasize. The general clinical presentations manage to simulate the malignant neoplasia from the same histological group. The authors have may have these tumors in the local area on the abdominal wall which can be treated by a large surgical cut in order to avoid recurrence.
