The present investigation addresses the gravity of mispronunciation for the intelligibility of English spoken by L1 Finland-Swedish teenagers. Previous research on the topic has been scarce, and even though there is some knowledge about the typical pronunciation challenges faced by this learner group, there is hardly any empirical research on the extent to which the typical mispronunciations actually cause misunderstandings. Tarkastelen tutkielmassani ymmärtämisen käsitettä Ludwig Wittgensteinin myöhäisfilosofian pohjalta. Pyrin samalla sekä esittelemään että soveltamaan Wittgensteinin erityislaatuista filosofista menetelmää. Tulkintani mukaan Wittgenstein käsitti filosofian tehtäväksi sen osoittamisen, että filosofiset ongelmat perustuvat virheellisille oletuksille. Tämä osoitetaan tarkastelemalla ongelman kannalta relevanttien käsitteiden ”kielioppia” eli käyttösääntöjä, jotka määräävät niiden merkityksen. The main purpose of this interpretation is to search for the theoretical structure of a prepared research tool, initially called the Teen Violence Scale Toward Parents (TVSTP). Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin perhemuodon, sisaruuden ja syntymäjärjestyksen yhteyttä lapsen saamaan hyväksyntään ikätovereiden keskuudessa ensimmäisellä luokalla. Tutkittavina oli 154 keskisuomalaista lasta yhdeksältä luokalta. Lapsen sosiaalista suosituimmuutta ja näkyvyyttä arvioitiin ensimmäisen luokan keväällä pyytämällä lapsia mainitsemaan luokkatovereita, joiden kanssa he viettävät mielellään aikaansa ja joiden kanssa he vastaavasti eivät mielellään vietä aikaansa. Perhetaustasta kerättiin tietoa vanhemmilta kyselylomakkeella lasten ollessa esikoulussa.
