Pseudo-stochastic multiple-pulse excitation in dielectric spectroscopy: application to a relaxor ferroelectric

2003

The nonlinear dielectric response of a lead titanate-doped lead magnesium niobate relaxor ferroelectric was studied using pseudo-stochastic binary electrical field excitation. The polarization was recorded for various pulse spacings and electrical field amplitudes. The decay of the field-polarization cross-correlation function could be accelerated by increasing the amplitude of the pulse fields. The extension of these experiments in order to record multidimensional dielectric spectra is illustrated.

Stand-Off Magnetometry with Directional Emission from Sodium Vapors

2021

International audience; Stand-off magnetometry allows measuring magnetic field at a distance, and can be employed in geophysical research, hazardous environment monitoring, and security applications. Stand-off magnetometry based on resonant scattering from atoms or molecules is often limited by the scarce amounts of detected light. The situation would be dramatically improved if the light emitted by excited atoms were to propagate towards the excitation light source in a directional manner. Here, we demonstrate that this is possible by means of mirrorless lasing. In a tabletop experiment, we detect free-precession signals of ground-state sodium spins under the influence of an external magne…

Stability of C60 and N@C60 under thermal and optical exposure

2015

N@C60, a nitrogen atom encapsulated in a fullerene shell, has an electron-nuclear spin system with outstanding coherence properties attractive for quantum computation. The stability of this molecule is known to be limited due to thermal escape of the nitrogen atom from the C60 cage but little is known about the stability towards optical excitation, which is one possible tool for an indirect scheme to manipulate and read out quantum information. Here, we report the results of a systematic study regarding thermal and optical effects on the stability of N@C60. The central result is that stability under intense laser irradiation can be obtained when the sample remains cooled below a certain tem…

Ultra-broad spectral photo-response in FePS3 air-stable devices

2021

Van der Waals materials with narrow energy gaps and efficient response over a broadband optical spectral range are key to widen the energy window of nanoscale optoelectronic devices. Here, we characterize FePS as an appealing narrow-gap p-type semiconductor with an efficient broadband photo-response, a high refractive index, and a remarkable resilience against air and light exposure. To enable fast prototyping, we provide a straightforward guideline to determine the thickness of few-layered FePS nanosheets extracted from the optical transmission characteristics of several flakes. The analysis of the electrical photo-response of FePS devices as a function of the excitation energy confirms a …

Polymorph acceptor-based triads with photoinduced TADF for UV sensing

2021

Abstract In contrast to many donor–acceptor type organic luminophores exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), two deep blue TADF emitters designed in this work contain only typical electron accepting moieties with different electron accepting abilities. Derivatives of benzophenone and diphenylsulfone substituted with phenothiazine-5,5-dioxide donor moieties were synthesized and studied. In addition to the TADF, green to blue emission color switching and strong fluorescence intensity enhancement by more than 60 times was detected for THF solution of the derivative of phenothiazine-5,5-dioxide and benzophenone under increase of UV excitation dose. We proved by a variety of…

Plasmon Excitations in Mixed Metallic Nanoarrays

2019

Features of the surface plasmon from macroscopic materials emerge in molecular systems, but differentiating collective excitations from single-particle excitations in molecular systems remains elusive. The rich interactions between single-particle electron-hole and collective electron excitations produce phenomena related to the chemical physics aspects within the atomic array. We study the plasmonic properties of atomic arrays of noble (Au, Ag, and Cu) and transition-metal (Pd, Pt) homonuclear chains using time-dependent density functional theory and their Kohn-Sham transition contributions. The response to the electromagnetic radiation is related to both the geometry-dependent confinement…

Coded excitation speeds up the detection of the fundamental flexural guided wave in coated tubes

2016

The fundamental flexural guided wave (FFGW) permits ultrasonic assessment of the wall thickness of solid waveguides, such as tubes or, e.g., long cortical bones. Recently, an optical non-contact method was proposed for ultrasound excitation and detection with the aim of facilitating the FFGW reception by suppressing the interfering modes from the soft coating. This technique suffers from low SNR and requires iterative physical scanning across the source-receiver distance for 2D-FFT analysis. This means that SNR improvement achieved by temporal averaging becomes time-consuming (several minutes) which reduces the applicability of the technique, especially in time-critical applications such as…
