Electro-excitation of nucleon resonances and meson production

Facilities and Methods: Heavy Element Spectroscopy at JYFL
2007
A central theme throughout the history of experimental nuclear physics has been the pursuit of nuclei at the extremes. These extremes, be they in terms of mass, proton-to-neutron ratio, or spin and excitation energy, provide the most stringent tests for our current nuclear structure theories. The pursuit of these extremes also provides impetus to develop and exploit new techniques and instrumentation. At the Department of Physics of the University of Jyvaskyla (JYFL), a major part of the experimental program is devoted to the study of heavy nuclei along the proton dripline and superheavy nuclei in the transfermium region. This program was initiated in the mid-1990s when a small array of TES…
Levels in104Ru populated by the ??-decay of104Tc
1978
Theβ− — andγ-activities of 18.4 min104Tc have been studied with singles and coincidence measurements. Sources were prepared by chemical separation of technetium from the fission products of thermal-neutron-induced fission of235U. A revised level scheme of104Ru up to an excitation energy of 4.26 MeV is proposed. Fromβ-γ coincidence measurements, aQβ-value of 5.62±0.07 MeV has been obtained.

Evidence for narrow Δ0(1232) states in the 12 C(e,e'pπ−}11 C Reaction
1999
The reaction 12C(e,e'Δ0)11C →12C(e,e'pπ−)11C was investigated at the Mainz Microtron MAMI in a triple coincidence measurement using the three spectrometer setup of the A1 Collaboration. The good missing mass resolution of σm= 0.27 MeV/c2 allowed to select the events belonging to the ground state of 11C. Cutting on these events the excitation energy spectra of 12CΔ0 show evidence for two peaks of about 4 MeV width (FWHM) at 282 MeV and 296 MeV with a significance of about 4.5 standard deviations. The peaks are interpreted in a simple weak coupling model as bound Δ0 states in 12CΔ0.

Decay characteristics of 0 2 + and 0 3 + states in112Cd and114Cd
1980
Absolute rates ofE0 andE2 transitions depopulating 0 2 + and 0 3 + states in112Cd and114Cd have been determined using conversion-electron andγ-ray spectroscopy, and double Coulomb excitation. The collectivity of these states is established and discussed.
Gamow–Teller beta decays of the odd-mass neighbors of the solar-neutrino detector 127I
2002
Abstract Calculations of the energy spectra and the log ft values of Gamow–Teller beta transitions of neutron-odd and proton-odd nuclei close to the solar-neutrino detector 127I are performed using the microscopic quasiparticle–phonon model. The information obtained from the beta transition strengths is valuable in solar-neutrino detection and dark matter search both in present and future large-scale experiments. Realistic interactions within a realistic single-particle valence space were used in the calculations. The overall correspondence in terms of the excitation spectra and the log ft values between theory and experiments can be regarded as quite good when considering the completely mi…
Clues to the nature of the Δ∗(1700) resonance from pion- and photon-induced reactions
2006
Abstract We make a study of the π − p → K 0 π 0 Λ , π + p → K + π + Λ , K + K ¯ 0 p , K + π + Σ 0 , K + π 0 Σ + , and η π + p reactions, in which the basic dynamics is given by the excitation of the Δ ∗ ( 1700 ) resonance which subsequently decays into K Σ ∗ ( 1385 ) or Δ ( 1232 ) η . In a similar way we also study the γ p → K 0 π + Λ , K + π − Σ + , K + π + Σ − , K 0 π 0 Σ + , and η π 0 p related reactions. The cross sections are proportional to the square of the coupling of Δ ∗ ( 1700 ) to Σ ∗ K ( Δη ) for which there is no experimental information but which is provided in the context of coupled channels chiral unitary theory where the Δ ∗ ( 1700 ) is dynamically generated. Within present…
Gamow–Teller transitions in exotic pf-shell nuclei relevant to supernova explosion
2007
Gamow–Teller (GT) transitions starting from unstable pf-shell nuclei are of interest not only in nuclear physics, but also in astrophysics, e.g. in violent neutrino induced reactions at the core-collapse stage of type II supernovae. In the β-decay study of these pf-shell nuclei, half-lives can be measured rather accurately. On the other hand, in high-resolution (3He, t) charge-exchange reactions at 0°, individual GT transitions up to high excitations can be studied. Assuming the isospin symmetry for the strengths of Tz = ±1 → 0 analogous GT transitions, we present a unique 'merged analysis' for the determination of absolute B(GT) values.
