Reducing the contribution of the photoemission process to the unwanted beam in photoelectron sources at accelerators

Negative electron affinity (NEA) GaAs photocathodes show different pulse responses depending on the wavelength of photoexcitation. The pulse response at 800 nm shows a long and relatively intense tail, whereas at 400 nm, a tail of similar shape but with an intensity lower by around two orders of magnitude is observed. We explain this behavior with the specific properties of NEA photocathodes and compare it with the response of a positive electron affinity photocathode.
Dispersion relation formalism for the two-photon exchange correction to elastic muon-proton scattering: elastic intermediate state

We evaluate the two-photon exchange correction to the unpolarized cross section in the elastic muon-proton scattering within dispersion relations. One of the six independent invariant amplitudes requires a subtraction. We fix the subtraction function to the model estimate of the full two-photon exchange at one of three MUSE beam energies and make a prediction for the two other energies. Additionally, we present single and double polarization observables accounting for the lepton mass.
Equation-of-motion coupled-cluster methods for atoms and molecules in strong magnetic fields.

A program for the direct calculation of excitation energies of atoms and molecules in strong magnetic fields is presented. The implementation includes the equation-of-motion coupled-cluster singles-doubles (EOM-CCSD) method for electronically excited states as well as its spin-flip variant. Differences to regular EOM-CCSD implementations are due to the appearance of the canonical angular-momentum operator in the Hamiltonian causing the wave function to become complex. The gauge-origin problem is treated by the use of gauge-including atomic orbitals. Therefore, a modified Davidson method for diagonalizing complex non-Hermitian matrices is used. Investigation of Gamma Rays from the36S(p,γ)37Cl Reaction

The excitation curve of the 36S(p,γ)37Cl reaction has been measured in the proton energy range 1 000-1 900 keV. 109 resonances were observed. The decay schemes for 13 resonances and energies and branching ratios of 15 bound states have been obtained by means of Ge(Li) detectors. Seven of the bound states have not been reported earlier. Lifetimes or lifetime limits of 5 bound states have been measured by means of Doppler-shift attenuation method.
High-Statistics Sub-Barrier Coulomb Excitation of $^{106,108,110}$Sn

International audience; A Coulomb excitation campaign on $^{106,108,110}$Sn at 4.4–4.5 MeV/u was launched at the HIE-ISOLDE facility at CERN. Larger excitation cross sections and γ-ray statistics were achieved compared to previous experiments at ∼2.8 MeV/u. More precise $(B(E2;0_{1}^{ + } \to 2_{1}^{ + }))$ values, lifetimes of states via the Doppler shift attenuation method, and new $(B(E2;0_{1}^{ + } \to 2_{x}^{ + })), (B(E2;2_{1}^{ + } \to 4_{1}^{ + }))$ and $(Q(2_{1}^{ + }))$ values from the new Miniball data will be obtained and applied to test modern nuclear structure theories.
Phase-Imaging Ion-Cyclotron-Resonance Measurements for Short-Lived Nuclides

A novel approach based on the projection of the Penning-trap ion motion onto a position-sensitive detector opens the door to very accurate mass measurements on the ppb level even for short-lived nuclides with half-lives well below a second. In addition to the accuracy boost, the new method provides a superior resolving power by which low-lying isomeric states with excitation energy on the 10-keV level can be easily separated from the ground state. A measurement of the mass difference of ^{130}Xe and ^{129}Xe has demonstrated the great potential of the new approach.
K isomerism in Rf255 and total kinetic energy measurements for spontaneous fission of Rf255,256,258

Spontaneous fission properties of the isotopes $^{255}\mathrm{Rf}$, $^{256}\mathrm{Rf}$, and $^{258}\mathrm{Rf}$ produced in the reactions $^{50}\mathrm{Ti}+^{207}\mathrm{Pb}$, $^{50}\mathrm{Ti}+^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$, and $^{50}\mathrm{Ti}+^{209}\mathrm{Bi}$ were studied. The method of time and position correlations was used to identify spontaneous fission events. The correction to the energy deficit in measured total kinetic energy (TKE) determined on the basis of a study of $^{252}\mathrm{No}$ was applied to evaluate the $\overline{\mathrm{TKE}}$ of investigated rutherfordium isotopes. “Safe” Coulomb Excitation ofMg30

We report on the first radioactive beam experiment performed at the recently commissioned REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN in conjunction with the highly efficient γ spectrometer MINIBALL. Using Mg-30 ions accelerated to an energy of 2.25 MeV/u together with a thin Ni-nat target, Coulomb excitation of the first excited 2(+) states of the projectile and target nuclei well below the Coulomb barrier was observed. From the measured relative deexcitation γ-ray yields the B(E2;0(gs)(+)R 2(1)(+)) value of Mg-30 was determined to be 241(31)e(2) fm(4). Decay of24Al and24Almto γ-Ray and α-Particle Emitting States in24Mg

The level structure of 24Mg and decay properties of 129 ms 24Alm and 2.07 s 24Al have been investigated by means of γ-ray and particle spectroscopy. The energy and intensity of the isomeric transition were measured to be 425.8 ± 0.1 keV and (82.5 ± 3.0)%, respectively. The isomer was observed to decay via a super-allowed transition with a log ft value of 3.51 ± 0.04 to its 1+, 9965.2 ± 1.5 keV analog state in 24Mg. In addition, decay to seven particle-emitting levels and four levels depopulated by γ-ray emission were observed. In the decay of 2.07 s 24Al a new delayed α-particle group with an energy 3.04 MeV and three new γ-transitions were observed. More accurate values than those reported…
