Abstract The compressive behavior of lightweight fiber reinforced concrete confined with transverse reinforcement consisting of steel stirrups or spirals was analyzed. Pumice stone and expanded clay aggregates were utilized to decrease the weight of the composite; hooked steel fibers were also added. The investigation was carried out by testing cylindrical and prismatic specimens of different sizes in compression using an open-loop displacement control machine, recording the full load–deformation curves. Symmetry reduction of a model in spherical symmetry for benign tumor

A PDEs system, describing the expansive growth of a benign tumor and the phe- nomenon of encapsulation, is studied via a group analysis approach. A weak equiv- alence classi¯cation is obtained and the original PDEs system is reduced to an ODEs system. Numerical simulations are performed both for ODEs and PDEs, which turn out to be in perfect agreement between each other, showing a realistic enough description of the biological process.
Non Gaussian closure techniques for the analysis of R-FBI isolation system

The Resilient-Friction Base Isolator (R-FBI) stochastic response under severe ground motion modelled as a stationary and non-stationary zero mean stochastic white noise processes is performed. The moment equation approach is applied and the non-normal response is obtained by means of a non-Gaussian closure technique, based on the Gram-Charlier asymptotic expansion of the response probability density function. Results are compared with the equivalent non linearization technique and with results obtained by means of Monte Carlo simulation.

In this paper, we prove that if $R\colon\widehat{\mathbb{C}}\to\widehat{\mathbb{C}}$ is a postcritically finite rational map with Julia set homeomorphic to the Sierpi\'nski carpet, then there is an integer $n_0$, such that, for any $n\ge n_0$, there exists an $R^n$-invariant Jordan curve $\Gamma$ containing the postcritical set of $R$.

In this study, a phylogeographic scenario of the coal tit (Periparus ater) was reconstructed based on a fragment of the mitochondrial control region, and within- and between-population genetic diversity was analysed with a focus on the western Palearctic breeding range. We inferred a first pan-European delimitation of a postulated secondary contact zone among coal tits from the north-eastern Palearctic ater subspecies group and those from the south-western Palearctic abietum group. We analysed the genetic diversity of Melicertus kerathurus (Penaeidae), a commercially valuable penaeid shrimp that is distributed in the Mediterranean Sea and eastern Atlantic Ocean. We examined the polymorphism of a 494 bp DNA segment of the mitochondrial COI region in 173 individuals, sampled in nine Mediterranean and two Atlantic samples, covering the whole range of the species from the tropical waters of the Gulf of Guinea to the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea.
