Reductive Decationizable Block Copolymers for Stimuli-Responsive mRNA Delivery

2016

Messenger ribonucleic acids (mRNAs) are considered as promising alternatives for transient gene therapy, but to overcome their poor pharmacokinetic properties, smart carriers are required for cellular uptake and stimuli-responsive release. In this work, a synthetic concept toward reductive decationizable cationic block copolymers for mRNA complexation is introduced. By combination of RAFT block copolymerization with postpolymerization modification, cationic block copolymers are generated with disulfide-linked primary amines. They allow effective polyplex formation with negatively charged mRNA and subsequent release under reductive conditions of the cytoplasm. In first in vitro experiments w…

Assessment of a New Analytical Expression for the Maximum-Power Point Voltage with Series Resistance

2021

This work compares a recently developed analytical expression for the maximum-power point voltage with experimental data, to test its usability for crystalline silicon solar cells. The experimental data covers measurements from 18 multicrystalline silicon solar cells with different bulk resistivities and cell architectures. We show that the expression is able to predict the maximum power obtainable by the measured cells with relative discrepancies below 1%. Additionally, we compare the accuracy of this new expression with two already existing models.

Optimum free energy in the reference functional approach for the integral equations theory.

2011

We investigate the question of determining the bulk properties of liquids, required as input for practical applications of the density functional theory of inhomogeneous systems, using density functional theory itself. By considering the reference functional approach in the test particle limit, we derive an expression of the bulk free energy that is consistent with the closure of the Ornstein–Zernike equations in which the bridge functions are obtained from the reference system bridge functional. By examining the connection between the free energy functional and the formally exact bulk free energy, we obtain an improved expression of the corresponding non-local term in the standard referenc…

A Quick Simulation Technique for a Fluid Information Storage Problem

2001

Summary In this paper we present an application of Importance Sampling (IS) for quick simulation of buffer overflow probability in a statistical multiplexer loaded with a number of independent Markov modulated fluid sources. Runtime improvement is deducible from NMCσ2(p) and NISσ2(p*) that characterize the trade-offs between sample size and variance of the estimators of buffer overflow probability experienced in Monte Carlo (MC) and Importance Sampling simulations. By assuming that the same precision is achieved for the two kinds of simulations if σ2(p)=σ2(p*), an approximate closed form expression for the ratio NIS/NMC is derived, and it is minimized with respect to the load of the multipl…

Stochastic anticipative calculus on the path space over a compact Riemannian manifold

1998

Abstract In this paper, we shall first give another expression for Cruzeiro-Malliavin structure equation, by means of the Skorohod integral. The torsion tensor with respect to the Markovian connection used in [CF] is computed. This is the key step to establish a Stroock-like formula of commutation on the derivative of the Skorohod integral, which enables us to prove an Ito formula. As an application, we shall give a maximal inequality for Skorohod integrals following [AN2].

Genomic run-on evaluates transcription rates for all yeast genes and identifies gene regulatory mechanisms

2004

Most studies of eukaryotic gene regulation have been done looking at mature mRNA levels. Nevertheless, the steady-state mRNA level is the result of two opposing factors: transcription rate (TR) and mRNA degradation. Both can be important points to regulate gene expression. Here we show a new method that combines the use of nylon macroarrays and in vivo radioactive labeling of nascent RNA to quantify TRs, mRNA levels, and mRNA stabilities for all the S. cerevisiae genes. We found that during the shift from glucose to galactose, most genes undergo drastic changes in TR and mRNA stability. However, changes in mRNA levels are less pronounced. Some genes, such as those encoding mitochondrial pro…

Cloning of Two Putative Ecdysteroid Receptor Isoforms from Tenebrio Molitor and their Developmental Expression in the Epidermis during Metamorphosis

1997

Using the Drosophila EcR-B1 cDNA as a probe, we have cloned the putative ecdysteroid receptor from the mealworm Tenebrio molitor. We have isolated two cDNAs with different 5' termini that contain a complete open reading frame. These two cDNAs encode two proteins with distinct N-terminal regions corresponding to two isoforms. The coleopteran receptor is obviously related to the ecdysteroid receptor of other insects, but shares only 89% and 61% amino acid identities with the DNA-binding and ligand-binding domains of the Drosophila receptor, respectively. Its expression pattern has been examined in the epidermis during the last larval instar and pupal stage of T. molitor, in correlation with t…

Stochastic response of a fractional vibroimpact system

2017

Abstract The paper proposes a method to investigate the stochastic dynamics of a vibroimpact single-degree-of-freedom fractional system under a Gaussian white noise input. It is assumed that the system has a hard type impact against a one-sided motionless barrier, which is located at the system’s equilibrium position; furthermore, the system under study is endowed with an element modeled with fractional derivative. The proposed method is based on stochastic averaging technique and overcome the particular difficulty due to the presence of fractional derivative of an absolute value function; particularly an analytical expression for the system’s mean squared response amplitude is presented an…

How and for whom does a positive affect intervention work in fibromyalgia: An analysis of mediators and moderators.

2019

Objectives: Psychological interventions designed to enhance positive affect are promising ways to promote adaptive functioning in people with chronic pain. However, few studies have addressed the efficacy of positive affect interventions in chronic pain populations and examined which patients can benefit more from them. The aim of the present study was to identify mediators and moderators of the best possible self intervention (BPS) in fibromyalgia patients. Methods: We used data from a previous randomized controlled trial that examined changes in pain interference, depression, self‐efficacy and quality of life after the BPS intervention. Results: Mediation analyses showed that depression med…
