Abstract In this paper a comparison between the analytical expressions for the prediction of the load carrying capacity of strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) columns with steel angles and strips is made. Expressions examined consider: the strength contribution due to the confinement effects induced by transverse strips; the composite action due to steel angles and unconfined concrete core; the strength contribution due to the composite actions of angles and concrete core taking into account that steel angles are subjected to axial force and bending moment and concrete core is confined by transverse strips. Experimental test results vs. analytical prediction of welded joint strength in hybrid steel trussed concrete beams (HSTCBs)

The aim of the paper is to provide practical guidelines for the design of welded joints of steel truss for encased composite steel–concrete beams. The results of experimental tests are presented and interpreted. The steel truss is made of a steel plate acting as the bottom chord, made of S355 structural steel, coupled with steel rebars which form the upper chord, and steel inclined web rebars (V-reverse) welded to the two chord elements, both of them made of steel B450C. Vapour condensation and moisture accumulation in porous building wall

Simultaneous one-dimensional heat and vapour transfer with condensation in a porous wall is analytically investigated. Spatially steady-state distribution of accumulated moisture, less than the critical content, is described. Closed-form analytical expressions for the temperature, condensation rate and moisture content are obtained. The presented model requires material properties which are relatively simple and easy to determine. The results of the paper are illustrated with an example of multilayer building wall under climatic conditions.
Extended Skyrme Equation of State in asymmetric nuclear matter

We present a new equation of state for infinite systems (symmetric, asymmetric, and neutron matter) based on an extended Skyrme functional that has been constrained by microscopic Brueckner-Bethe-Goldstone results. The resulting equation of state reproduces the main features of microscopic calculations very accurately and is compatible with recent measurements of two times Solar-mass neutron stars. We provide all necessary analytical expressions to facilitate a quick numerical implementation of quantities of astrophysical interest.
Intrinsic CPT violation and decoherence for entangled neutral mesons

We present a combined treatment of quantum-gravity-induced effects and intrinsic CPT violation in entangled neutral-Kaon states. Our analysis takes into consideration two types of effects: first, those associated with the loss of particle-antiparticle identity, as a result of the ill-defined nature of the CPT operator, and second, effects due to the non-unitary evolution of the Kaons in the space-time foam. By studying a variety of phi-factory observables, involving identical as well as general final states, we derive analytical expressions, to leading order in the associated CPT violating parameters, for double-decay rates and their time-integrated counterparts. This study extends the discussion on open strategizing by following the development of unlimited participation in an ex-ante city merger case where participation was not orchestrated. The findings unravel how the aggregation of emotional expressions on social media results in an escalating conflict, and initiates attempts to mitigate grounded in decision-makers’ reflexiveness of social becoming(s). From pragmatics to semantics:Esto esin formulaic expressions

Abstract This paper explores the transition of the Spanish marker esto es (English that is) from a free construction into a reformulative marker, as well as the pragmatic variables involved in this shift. Based on the occurrences of esto es between the 13th and the 15th centuries in the CORDE corpus, the study shows that, in order to account for this change, external factors have to be considered, especially the discourse traditions associated with the texts in which this marker appears. If this hypothesis is correct, then the problem of the pragmatics-semantics interface will have to include a new front, where non-linguistic factors trigger changes in language structure.

The constant search for suitable teaching materials to achieve the linguistic skills provided by a language teaching course, finds in authentic documents an important instrument for teaching foreign languages.
