55 (including 13 women) of 110 starters of a 1000-km-ultra long distance run reached their goal after 20 days of daily running 50 km. As a consequence of the burden of running 500 km the flat feet form is diminished, which might be caused by an increased reactive muscular tonus. The increase of foot length and breadth measures between the 9th and 16th day, however, demonstrates the opposite effect, when a "physiological limit" of circa 500 km is exceeded.

One of the most striking adaptations to exercise is the skeletal muscle hypertrophy that occurs in response to resistance exercise. A large body of work shows that a mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1)-mediated increase of muscle protein synthesis is the key, but not sole, mechanism by which resistance exercise causes muscle hypertrophy. The role of fissula ante fenestram in unilateral sudden hearing loss

The cause of unilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) remains unclear in many clinical cases. Perilymphatic leakage through a fissula ante fenestram (FAF) fistula is one possible reason. We present four clinical cases with proven FAF fistula, discovered during surgical exploration. All patients experienced partial hearing recovery after surgical coverage of the fistula. We suggest FAF as a possible site for perilymphatic leakage, representing an anatomical correlate for sudden unilateral SNHL. We recommend early exploratory tympanotomy with special attention to the bony region, anterior to the oval window, in cases of severe sudden SNHL and suspected FAF.

Case Report: We report the case of a 76-year-old woman with a history of May-Hegglin anomaly who presented with an isolated unusual diffuse headache. Accumulation of sensory difficulties predicts fear of falling in older women

Objectives: To explore whether the accumulation of sensory difficulties predicts fear of falling (FOF), and whether the traits correlate with each other regardless of familial factors. Methods: Self-reported hearing, vision and balance difficulties, and FOF were assessed using structured questionnaires at the baseline and after a 3-year follow-up in 63- to 76-year-old women ( n = 434). Results: Among the women without FOF at baseline ( n = 245), 41% reported FOF at follow-up. Increasing numbers of sensory difficulties at baseline predicted higher incidence of FOF. Abstract Twenty participants who were deaf and 20 chronological age-matched participants with typical hearing (TH) (mean age: 12 years) were asked to judge the correctness of written sentences with or without a grammatically incongruent word while their eye movements were registered. TH participants outperformed deaf participants in grammaticality judgment accuracy. Background: Fabry disease is an X-linked glycosphingolipid storage disorder due to a deficiency of the enzyme alpha-galactosidase A. Accumulation of substrate results in a progressive and life-threatening multisystemic disease. Early clinical manifestations include pain and gastrointestinal symptoms. Sensorineural hearing loss and vertigo are well-recognized features of the disorder, occurring in approximately 50% of adults with Fabry disease.
