Learning Flow-Based Feature Warping for Face Frontalization with Illumination Inconsistent Supervision
2020
Despite recent advances in deep learning-based face frontalization methods, photo-realistic and illumination preserving frontal face synthesis is still challenging due to large pose and illumination discrepancy during training. We propose a novel Flow-based Feature Warping Model (FFWM) which can learn to synthesize photo-realistic and illumination preserving frontal images with illumination inconsistent supervision. Specifically, an Illumination Preserving Module (IPM) is proposed to learn illumination preserving image synthesis from illumination inconsistent image pairs. IPM includes two pathways which collaborate to ensure the synthesized frontal images are illumination preserving and wit…
Multiscale Attention-Based Prototypical Network For Few-Shot Semantic Segmentation
2021
International audience; Deep learning-based image understanding techniques require a large number of labeled images for training. Few-shot semantic segmentation, on the contrary, aims at generalizing the segmentation ability of the model to new categories given only a few labeled samples. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel prototypical network (MAPnet) with multiscale feature attention. To fully exploit the representative features of target classes, we firstly extract rich contextual information of labeled support images via a multiscale feature enhancement module. The learned prototypes from support features provide further semantic guidance on the query image. Then we adaptively i…
Real Time Assessment of Potable Water Quality in Distribution Network based on Low Cost Multi-Sensor Array
2018
New concepts and techniques are replacing traditional methods of water quality parameters measurement systems. This paper proposed a new way of potable water quality assessment in distribution network using Multi Sensor Array (MSA). Extensive research suggests that following parameters i.e. pH, Dissolved Oxygen (D.O.), Conductivity, Oxygen Reduction Potential (ORP), Temperature and Salinity are most suitable to detect overall quality of potable water. Commonly MSA is not an integrated sensor array on some substrate, but rather comprises a set of individual sensors measuring simultaneously different water parameters all together. Based on research, a MSA has been developed followed by signal…

Policy and Governance for Sustainable Consumption at the Crossroads of Theories and Concepts
2016
This introductory article of the special issue compares different conceptual underpinnings of efforts to make the everyday activities of consumers more sustainable. As social practice theory (SPT) is the main theoretical foundation of the articles collected here, we outline its strengths and limitations, when compared with the dominant individual-oriented behaviour change approach, and we focus on theories of planned behaviour, social marketing as well as ‘choice architecture’, based on behavioural economics. This article analyses SPT's usefulness, particularly from the applied point of view for policy-makers and social change programme designers. In the final section we provide some recomm…

Cognitive impairment associated with chronic lead exposure in adults
2018
Abstract Lead (Pb) exposure interferes with many biochemical events present in cells of the central nervous system (neurons and astrocytes) and it can produce a wide spectrum of alterations including cognitive impairment. The review summarizes the main cognitive alterations induced by chronic Pb exposure in adults/older individuals. We have focused on the current state of knowledge concerning the most vulnerable brain areas to Pb exposure that accompanied by the long-lasting neurological effects of Pb in cognitive functions. We tried to correlate the cognitive deficits induced by Pb exposure in animal models during adulthood with those reported in humans. The great interest in whether expos…
Supplying small islands with solar, wind and sea wave. An economic approach to find the best energy share
2019
The progressive installation of power plants based on renewable energy sources is improving the sustainability of the energy sector. Despite the availability of commercial solutions, most of the small islands in the world are nowadays affected by a deep dependence on fossil fuels. In this context, the paper investigates the feasibility of an energy mix composed by solar, wind and sea wave, suggesting a sizing approach based on the minimization of the Levelized Cost of Electricity of the entire energy mix. As case study, the Aeolian Islands are presented.
Perspectives and challenges of small scale plant microalgae cultivation. Evidences from Southern Italy
2020
Abstract In recent years, the cultivation of algae has achieved attention of scientists and practicioniers due to the great variety of products that can be obtained, among which biofuels. The aim of this work is twofold. The first is to perform a profitability analysis of food and biofuel production from microalgae, in a small-scale setting. The second is to assess the economic impact of algae production systems on the dairy farms potentially interested in Southern Italy. The analysis was performed using financial and economic indicators and considering two system management scenarios, namely single and collective. Our results confirm that current microalgae production technology favors bio…
ADOPTING SOUND CORPORATE GOVERNANCE PRINCIPLES – A PROSPECTIVE APPROACН TOWARDS TНE IMPACT ON STOCK PRICES OF ROMANIAN LISTED COMPANIES
2020
Sound economic developments and successful businesses are conditioned by embracing proper corporate governance principles furthered by their proper implementation. There is a strong body of research that encompasses finance and accounting tools to establish valid links between qualitative corporate governance fundamentals and stock market performance of listed companies, that stem from accountability, operational integrity, transparency, management and board efficiency improvements, risk mitigation and overall better decision-making endeavours. The aim of the present research is to assess the impact of adopting sound corporate governance principles on the stock price of companies traded on …
