Concentrations of metallothioneins (MT) were analysed in bivalve molluscs Anodonta spp. and Unio spp. from 6 lakes and watercourses of Latvia with different anthropogenic pressure. The aim of the study was to find the relationship between MT in molluscs and concentrations of heavy metals in sediments. Unio spp. and Anodonta spp. showed no significant differences in the concentrations of MT. High concentrations of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Hg, Cu, Zn) were detected in the deepest parts of polluted water bodies, however their concentrations significantly decreased in near shore sediments inhabited by molluscs. This data was collected during an short-term incubation experiment in March 2017 that investigated the response of a surface plankton community to upwelling. This experiment was carried in the framework of the SFB754-funded KOSMOS mesocosm study that took place in La Punta, Callao, Peru between February-April 2017. A total of six different treatments were used to disentangle chemical and biological characteristics of deep water that influence surface plankton blooms: 2 different deep water sources with different nutrient concentrations; 3 treatments to distinguish the effects of inorganic nutrients, organic nutrients and deep water microbial populations. Decreased birth rate and aging population represent a treat to PAYG public pension systems implemented in countries of Central and Eastern Europe, due to the fact that the financing is direct dependent of the social contributions payed by the taxpayers active on labor market. Nel presente lavoro è stata condotta un’analisi quali/quantitativa degli elementi strutturali che caratterizzano alcuni affioramenti carbonatici presenti nella zona di catena esterna della Sicilia occidentale (Monte Maranfusa e Montangna Grande), e nella zona di avampaese in Sicilia sud-orientale (Monti Iblei). Le proprietà petrofisiche delle rocce carbonatiche (porosità, permeabilità), sono strettamente legate all’evoluzione diagenetica di quest’ultime e cambiano in funzione della natura, dell’organizzazione e della forma degli elementi che le costituiscono (grani, pori, cemento, minerali, ecc.).
