Decorin Expression and Oncosuppression in Human Embryonic Carcinomas

2019

Human embryonic stem cells in culture can transform into malignant, cancer-like cells exhibiting lesser differentiation. After transplantation, these transformed cells can form highly malignant germ cell tumors. In humans, germ cell tumors often appear at gonadal sites, like in the testis. In this study, we examined the expression of small leucine rich proteoglycans in normal and karyotypically abnormal human embryonic stem cells using a publicly available transcriptome data. We also examined the expression of the small leucine rich proteoglycans in healthy human testis and in different human testicular non-seminoma germ cell tumors using IST Online database. Furthermore, we localized the e…

Restriction analysis of lambda EMBL3 background recombinants: occurrence of lambda phages carrying a head to tail oriented left arm DNA sequence.

1989

Eight representative recombinant background clones of lambda EMBL3 were analysed using KpnI, BamHI, SalI, EcoRI and HindIII digestion. We found that lambda EMBL3 carries its own left arm in the BamHI cloning site. In the way, recombinant molecules were found to be generated which can grow on Escherichia coli strain NM539. In all cases analysed, the left arm DNA was inserted in a head to tail orientation. Seven clones carried a restored BamHI site at the cos site-BamHI site connection. In the region where the inserted left arm and the right arm were ligated, BamHI cloning produces a large palindromic sequence consisting of two polylinkers. This BamHI site was incompletely cleaved in all case…

Extracellular Structural and Secretory Proteins

1994

The extracellular matrices of animal tissues consist of networks of collagens and elastins, the meshes of which are filled with structural glycoproteins and glycosaminoglycans. The cells themselves are in direct contact with the basement membranes, which are specific regions of the extracellular matrix with a thickness of 20200 nm. The very varied compositions of the different extracellular matrices determine their mechanical characters and, in particular, their interactions with the cells [73]. The binding of cells to various matrix components is mediated by specific receptors on the cell surface and these recognize certain peptide sequences in the matrix proteins [141]. Several particular…

Microbiological quality of Pecorino Siciliano "primosale" cheese on retail sale in the street markets of Palermo, Italy

2011

Pecorino Siciliano (PS) “primosale” is a traditional Sicilian fresh soft cheese made from sheep’s milk. Short-ripening time and production from unpasteurized or raw milk can facilitate bacterial contamination of PS “primosale”. The microbiological quality of “primosale” on retail sale in the street markets of Palermo, Italy was studied by detecting the common food pathogens Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus and indicator microorganisms, such as Escherichia coli, Enterobacteriaceae and Staphylococcaceae. In our study, 4% and 44% of the samples, respectively, did not comply with the acceptability levels fixed by European regulations for S. aureus and E. coli. A high contaminati…
