A Measure of Trust: The Italian Regional Divide in a Latent Class Approach

Social differences within countries may partly explain the lack of economic convergence and the persistence of regional disparities. The case of Italy is emblematic: economic gap between North and South remains at high levels with large differences in social capital and in trust. In this paper, we use the micro data from the ISTAT “Aspects of Daily Life” Survey to build a measure of “trust in others” and a measure of “trust in institutions” through a latent class model to attribute a trust score to the Italian households and the Italian regions and, in this way, to add elements of knowledge useful to policies. Recently, UEFA launched the initiative of financial fair play to the football clubs, with the aim to encourage the competition also at economic level, promoting appropriate strategies for rational economic management. In Italy some managerial limits make football clubs less competitive than the foreigner ones. The implementation by the Italian clubs of measures to respect the rules of financial fair play shows some risks, both for the amount of losses to be restored, and for the limits that may emerge. [EN] Purpose: The objective is to analyse research in Operations Management (OM) teaching published in high impact journals in the area in order to examine trends and set future challenges. Design/methodology/approach: A bibliometric study was carried out of 45 of the main JCR OM and Management journals for the 1995-2010 period. The 129 articles identified on research in OM teaching were analysed. Findings: There is a dearth of articles on teaching in the main OM and Management journals. Sixty-two point two percent of the journals analysed have not published any and the remainder (17) have devoted only 0.4% of all their publications to this subject area.
