Factors affecting consumer preferences for “natural wine”: An exploratory study in the Italian market

Pobreza laboral en España : causas y alternativas políticas
2017

The 'power' of tourism in Portugal
2012
The author analyses the upper tail of the distribution of tourism supply in Portugal from 2002 to 2009, using data from the Instituto Nacional de Estatística database. Tourism supply is defined in terms of the lodging capacity of hotel establishments in about 250 tourist destinations. The paper shows that the empirical distribution of tourism supply in Portugal is heavy-tailed and consistent with a power law behaviour in its upper tail. Such behaviour seems to be stable over the years, provided that, for the time horizon covered by the data sets, the scaling parameter is always close to the value of two. The power law hypothesis is tested positively through the use of graphical and analyti…
L’allevamento bovino nella valle del Torto: un caso di zootecnia sostenibile in Sicilia
2011
In spite of not being the main activities of Sicilian agriculture, zootechny plays a very important social role, even more than economic, for a large part of Sicily. The crisis that has hit the industry since early 2000s, and particularly cattle livestock, caused the closure of many holdings and a strong decrease in the number of animals bred, both meat and dairy cattle. The beef cattle population in the Valle del Torto, in the province of Palermo (area covered by this study), for many decades has significantly contributed to the development of a rural community that trough this activity created his own wealth, income and economic stability. The crisis that over the last decade has affected…

Indicators of agricultural intensity and intensification: a review of the literature
2015
Since the 1960s, research has dealt with agricultural intensification (AI) as a solution to ensure global food security. Recently, sustainable intensification (SI) has increasingly been used to describe those agricultural and farming systems that ensure adequate ecosystem service provision. Studies differ in terms of the application scales and methodologies, thus we aim to summarize the main findings from the literature on how AI and SI are assessed, from the farm to global levels. Our literature review is based on 7865 papers selected from the Web of Science database and analysed using CorText software. A further selection of 105 relevant papers was used for an in-depth full-text analysis …
BEING ACCOUNTABLE: THE MEASUREMENT OF ITALIAN HEALTH CARE SECTOR PERFORMANCE
2011
Building on the analysis of the numerous contributions on the subject, treated by an extensive literature review, we highlight the limitations of traditional measurement systems and underlines the need for a comprehensive approach. In fact, in addition to traditional measurements, there is the need to consider other indicators of a different nature, not only the capital resources but also the non-property resources. According to this literature it is sufficiently established the consideration of performance on two fundamental levels: • the economic and financial, in more traditional terms; • the ‚real‛ results in terms of health. Bearing in mind these two levels together, the overall object…

Mediterranean Diet, Sustainability, and Tourism—A Study of the Market’s Demand and Knowledge
2023
Globalization intensified competitiveness among agribusinesses worldwide in recent years. The European Commission focused on enhancing sustainable agriculture and food products’ territorial uniqueness for competing in the international market. The Mediterranean diet (MD) is a model of feeding and lifestyle belonging to the ancient Mediterranean culture, which also embodies a sustainable food system. Therefore, in 2010, UNESCO recognized the MD as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and Sicily (southern Italy) is its official physical site. Despite its worldwide fame, the notion of the MD runs the risk of being mystified because it is described most often as something that does not cor…
