In an early printed book, the presence of a large iconographic apparatus normally reveals a strong effort both in designing its shape and in the financial coverage needed to make it possible. Such effort can be fully explained by paying attention to the scope and target behind its conception. The two volumes of “Ritratti della Prosapia et heroi Moncadi nella Sicilia”, published in 1657 in Valencia, offer a notable example of the political exposure sought after by a noble family, that of Moncada, through the printing press technique and its power of circulation, combined with the attractiveness of family portraits. Importance of balance sheet composition in stress test estimates

The stress tests are based on macroeconomic variables for the estimations of the results. However, there are other factors that may influence them. This paper studies the influence of the balance sheet structure in the NPL and the loss caused by the NPL using econometric models. The objective is to research how they affect the aggregates in the balance sheet to the delay in payment and the the provision for impairment, distinguishing these effects according to the economic cycle, so that can be applied to the stress test. Fa tres anys, l'Ivie va rebre de Caja Mediterránea (CAM) l'encàrrec d'estudiar la trajectòria i les perspectives de l'Arc Mediterrani espanyol (AME), un espai format per les cinc regions de la ribera oriental de la península Ibèrica considerat un important eix de desenvolupament europeu pel seu dinamisme demogràfic i econòmic. Els resultats d'este projecte foren publicats en gener de 2010 i la Societat Catalana d'Economia ens ha distingit fa unes setmanes amb el premi que acabe de rebre, en representació de tot l'equip de la Universitat de València i l'IVIE que ha desenvolupat esta investigació.
Estimating the long-term economic impacts of Spanish universities on the national economy

In contrast to previous studies on the economic impact of universities that focus on the demand side, this study centres on universities' effects on the supply side of the economy. Through a case study of the Spanish University System, this paper proposes a methodology based on counterfactual scenarios and growth accounting to estimate the long-term impacts of universities on their regional economies. Our study evaluates the stylized impacts of universities' activities on human capital, salaries and occupation of the working age population, on generation of technological capital and, finally, on the GDP growth of the Spanish economy in the period 1989¿2010.
